I posted a film video on YouTube, from 2002, called "50 Views of the Amiga's Impact". This is a collection of comments about the Amiga's impact, set to music. See here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAIrfLUXBF4

As that video was from 2002, I wonder what quotes he would use now from the divide Amiga Community if he were too make a new one...

Reckon it would look like an epside from The World At War just without the tanks & aircraft... :)

(probably most if it would be taken up with quotes about the iPad and stuff like Linuk & Ubuntu... :()

Since this video is from 2002, I think that some quotes are not that pertinent/correct/real nowadays... it's sad, but this is it.
(eg. the one regarding the A3000/T "can upgrade with new updated hardware a 10 years old machine" - we still do it on 20 years old machines, but far from being updated to recent enough technologies!)

Maybe a new one, with some of "old quotes" and some new would be more appropriate.
BY!

P.S. I love Amiga and I ditch away iStuff!  :)

If they were done today, half the comments would be about CUSA, and the other half would be red trolls and blue trolls fighting each other.

Franko, you hit it right on!

I was very enthusiastic about the Amiga but left it back in the early 90's because while all my friends were having fun playing all the cool new games on their PC's (Wing Commander, Comanche, etc.) all my Amiga friends, instead of just facing facts and enjoying our niche machines and what they could do, were constantly bitching "PC's suck, PC's can't do that and Amiga can do this, Microsoft sucks, Apple sucks, were the best" yada, yada, yada.  I just got sick of the negativety and left.

I have been back for a couple of years now, brought on mainly by nostalgia for the Amiga and I love playing with my machines but i STILL see much of the same old retoric again and again now many years later.  Instead of users helping users enjoy and understand our 'classic' hardware, so much time is wasted with just hateful arguing and 'what ifs'.  Its like a bad divorce where the parties involved just never move on.... sad. Sheesh, we lost can't we just move on.... that will never happen.

On the night Windows 95 was released we had a local user's group meeting.  A friend of mine was giving a demo of his towered A3000 box and was 'dissing Windows 95 right and left in his presentation.  Most of what he was saying was philosophically correct but not technically correct.  It was that night and that user group meeting that made me realise that the Amiga dream had ended, and not in a google translated French sort of way.

I ran into him two years ago.  He ditched his Amiga gear shortly after the turn of the century and was now a PC guy.

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

Couldn't agree with you more, until last summer when I finally went on the net I was blissfully unaware that certain so called Amiga users spent most of their time on these forums talking about everything else other than the Amiga... :(

I've tried to inject a bit of humour into things especially when it's got nothing to do with the Amiga but I've noticed more & more that certain folk round here a just a bunch of humourless greetin faced gits who seem to like nothing better than to moan and gripe about my posts cos it's dumbing down their claptrap about Apple & the like... :(

Sad thing is most of these moaning faced farts don't have anything useful or even interesting to say whether their posts are Amiga or non Amiga related... :(

Reckon myself they're just frustrated sad little turds, who no-one in the real world will listen to so they come here to spout their venom in the sad belief that the rest of us actually care or even agree with them... :(

To be honest I do like the fact that they are so dumb as to keep complaining about my posts and not using the ignore feature here that it's kinda became a new hobby for me winding the morons up and watching them constantly post complaints, give me a good laugh that does... :)

Anywhoo... just to inject a bit of irony here, anyone know how long an HD in an iMac should last, mines is only about 7 months old and it's failing with some message about "SMART failure occurring"... ruddy poxy piece of crApple junk...

PS:Gonna put together my own video for youtube from certain post's here and title it "Whats The Amiga Got To Do With An Amiga Forum"... :) just need a nice wee theme tune to go along with it... any suggestions... :D

Sorry the rest of the community built horizons beyond the scope of the Amiga.

Unless Apple went into the HD business and forgot to mention it to the rest of the world, it's highly unlikely that your HD failing is their fault. Back to your question... Consumer electronics should last around 4-5 years, obviously this will of course depend on how those pieces of kit were treated however.

Truthfully I'd not put much trust any hard drive on any system much beyond 3 years, even on a desktop system that is never moved. Sure, they can last years, even a decade or more, but as they get older the probability of their failing increases.

If your drive is registering a SMART failure, realistically it's time to replace it whilst it's still operable so as to prevent data loss. It's a warning feature that I would have killed for a couple of times with Amigas over the years... Live and learn I guess.

Just spent all afternoon backing it up (500GB) and ordered a new one, the ruddy thing was bought brand new only 7 months ago to go with the iMac but to be honest I think I should have sent it back as it's been pretty flakey since I got it... :(

(Gawd... another day to look forward to re-installing everything... :()

I'd take it back then. There is no way in hell that is right.

Is there no equivalent of Norton Ghost for MacOS?

I bought it online from CPC/Farnell (it was only cost me £37.49) but as they are really only "trade" suppliers when a customer like me returns something you have to fill out upteen forms and wait about two weeks for them to check it... :(

I've just looked at the invoice for it and I did return it to them after the first week (as it kept losing all it's data) but they returned it saying they had checked it and it was fine... :(

Ah well, it was only about £40 so it's really not worth the hassle again, not sure what Norton Ghost is, the only way I know how to install a Mac is using the original install DVDs then going through the tedious process of uploading all the updates over and over till you get back to OSX 10.5.8 and then reinstalling all the other apps I've bought... gonna be a long long day (again)... ;)

Before you do that, you might want to read this It may well save you a great deal of time and trouble.

Norton Ghost is a drive imaging tool that allows you to transplant the contents of one hard drive to another in such a manner as to allow the host OS to continue on as though nothing had changed. The above describes a similar piece of software for OSX.

I believe that if you're using OSX Leopard, you can use 'Time Machine' to back up your entire disk.

Despite my griping about Apple, they do have some really cool features.
