Games runs very slow.
« on: February 19, 2011, 07:07:03 PM »
I am having a problem with some games thru WHDload is ruing extremly slow and some of them works just fine.

I have an A3000 with a Cyberstorm ppc 060 50mhz/233mhz 128mb and a cybervision 64/3D.

The games i have tested so far are these.

Turrican II: Works great and only slowdowns when a boss is killed and i use the laser thingi ( holding fire button)

Pang: Works great, only slowdowns when alot of bubels burst at the same time.

Chaos Engine: Runs extremly slow and feels like im runing in 5-10fps.
Xenon 2: Same as Chaos Engine runs very slow.
Ruf and tumbel: Runs slow as the others.

So what can i do about this? Are the games not coded for the 060 so the cpu has to emulat a 040 or somthing?

Hi,

Some WHDLoad games do run slow on a PPC equipped Amiga, you can try adding Tooltype 'CACHE' in the Slave and see if that helps but best WHDload setup is an 030 based Amiga.

There are just some games like SWOS that run like a 3 legged dog on a 060/PPC :(

Steve.

Odd never came across that problem on my Blizzard060/PPC (even with SWOS). I have found it's the exact opposite (ie:some things run too fast) and have had to write a small script file that turns OFF all the 060 Caches to make some games playable... :)

After 3 houers of google grinding i have finaly found a fix to my problem.

I just had to add: NoCache in the whdload pref list and chaos engine runs superb (still a litle slowdown when alot of explosions are happening)

Setting the "NoCache" tooltype usually fixes problematic games on the '060, as you found with the possibly of some slowdown. Interestingly, the type of accelerator seems to have some influence. Here, the title music of SOTB3 is slightly out of sync on both the TekMagic and Apollo '060's, but it's perfect on the MKII. Tooltypes have no influence.

One WHDLoad niggle I've never been able to solve - Moonstone. A voice drops out of one of the audio chanels while the game loads, never to return. This happens even on my little 600/030. :/

Talked to a friend and he is using a MKII 060/50mhz and he have no problems what so ever with whdload with any games.

So how come that i have problems? We are both using the same kind of cpu to run the games. Or is there anything else different with the cyberstorm ppc and the mkII?
