Softhut?
« on: February 17, 2011, 04:58:27 PM »
Hello Folks,

Probably a stupid question, does anyone know if Softhut is still doing business? The page never got updated much in the first place, but, they were still around for a long time.

If not, there isn't any chance that someone knows a place where you could purchase an A4000T?

Thanks,
Mike

It is part time for them. You may need to send them an email.

I just talked to the guy on the phone last week.  He's still there, but its definitely not a full-time gig, as trekiej mentioned.  As for the A4000T, doubt that he has any.  Best bet is the ebay.

Joe doesn't mess with the Amigas much anymore as he has other businesses. Last time I contacted him he only had 1200s left. Try Amigakit, Amibay, and ebay.

Also be sure to check your local thrift stores and flea markets. I haven't been to a flea market in years where there wasn't at least some variety of Amiga for a lot less than you could pick it up on Ebay or from a "collector". When I lived in Orlando there was a big thrift store that had a couple A1000s, A2000s, and a box of A500s for $5 apiece.

What the F***!  Where are those places up here?! :madashell:

I'm pretty sure that the Goodwill employees have a computer set up in their receiving section to look up thrift items on ebay as they come in the store.  There is NOTHING of quality or value at Goodwill these days.

I agree,

It's been about five years since I've seen ANY Commodore computers in a Thrift store here in Ontario, Canada - and if they did show up they would be priced at $30 and above.  Whereas in the 1990s the places were absolutely flooded with them for a dime a dozen.

Goodwill, at least around here, seems intent on just taking any computers they're donated and directly recycling them.  Salvation Army, on the other hand, has a "no IT equipment" policy, again, this may be local but it's info I got from a manager at a local store.

Awesome, thanks for the quick responses guys! :-)

If anyone here ends up with a 4000T for sale (I know, I know ... fat chance), please drop me a line.

Thanks,
Mike

X2 WTF!

I have never seen an Amiga in a thrift store, salvation army. Who are these people? I have seen Atari STs, Macs of all sorts and C64s, but no Amiga.

I've been "thrifting" fairly heavily since the 90s from NJ to OH to VA, and I've never seen anything Amiga.

Come to Florida! This store in Orlando was located down off Oak Ridge Rd. and OBT in an old Winn Dixie. They had an entire row dedicated to electronics, it was awesome! Unfortunately it's gone, but we have some great flea markets around here. The one in Webster is usually good for retro systems, so is the one on West 50 in Orlando.

Best I've ever found at a thrift store was a Commodore 128D & An Atari ST.

Best yard sale find I ever had was an old lady selling a Vextrex in the original box with almost every game made for it. She only wanted $1 for it!!

At thrift stores I've found the Vectrexes (only one, actually) and the Colecovisions ($2.98) and the various C64/C128s, but my favorite finds were probably the $20 SX-64 and the $20 C128D back in the 90s.

My favorite yard sale finds were probably the massive Intellivision collection I got for $30 (just sold) and the Bally Astrocade for $11.

..and that pic doesn't even cover it all!

There might still be some A4000T's remaining, but you have to email Joe and ask.

I picked up one late last year.  It's still new in the box. :)
