Octamed SS 103.c open windows won't save
« on: February 17, 2011, 02:51:03 AM »
Anybody have this trouble; I get all the windows I want open on the screen, arrange then and save the settings. Close it all, and re-load OSS to find that only some of them are there where I put them.

Seems like I can only get about 4-5 of my favorite windows to save reliably before I run into this little snag. It's annoying.

I have even checked the config file to see what is saved. And yep they all seem to be stored there, but it's like the program doesn't get through all of them and decides, well that's enough.

You want all this and both scopes up? Too bad, you can't handle both the bar scope and the silly scope! We took away the track editor! WTF!

Ideas?

I have the same issues and would be happy for an answer my self.

I think maybe it times out somehow. It runs through the config script and aborts if it takes to long.

Also, curious about the CU Amiga version. I heard there is a way to get rid of this nag-questor?

When I was using OSS on Amiga it happened to me too. I was running 1024x768 screen display on much larger background windows size [if I remember correctly] and I opened as much as I can windows, save config and exit. Next time I open program, always one or two windows were missing [not displayed / opened]. Obviously a bug. So I keep opening and saving unless I am happy with as much as possible opened windows...

I have the free version from the Aminet CD if you want me to send you a copy?. It doesn't have the requestor.

I've never had an Amiga with a large enough screenmode to run into this window problem!. Or maybe I'm just not a window happy as the rest of you guys. I usally just have the block list and playing sequence open and saved.

I would like to try that version, if you can web it to me somehow?...
I don't know if the size is an issue but I'll do some experiments, try to find out what's going on here...

Damn it Scotty I need more windows! (fist to chair arm)

I could go for a copy of that as well if you don't mind. I'm really curious if it is the Requester that is causing OctaMED S.S. to lock up MorphOS, and it would be nice to not have to see the requester every time I load it up on my Amiga(s). :)

@theGoose,

I'll email you a copy as soon as I find it. My computer room is a wreck right now.

@XDelusion,

PM me the email you would like me to send it to. I don't think the file is very big.

I figured it out. :)

There is a bug in OSS when the config file is saved. It tries to write a 2nd line for more windows to open, but this gets screwed up. But you can easily edit it to open all the windows your little 8bit heart desires:

This is not an exhaustive list, but most of what you might want open:

OpenWins = 55 ; main control
OpenWins = 50 ; tracker editor
OpenWins = 53 ; information
OpenWins = 5  ; song sequence
OpenWins = 21 ; blocks window
OpenWins = 81 ; instruments list
OpenWins = 6  ; block properties
OpenWins = 54 ; set tempo
OpenWins = 2  ; song volumes / track mixer
OpenWins = 51 ; bar scope
OpenWins = 52 ; silly scope

My Example:

OpenWins = 52,51,6,55,21,5,81
OpenWins = 54,53,50

Be sure you are not repeating a number/window. I did this:

1. Open everything you want and snapshot the screen, save the config.
2. Re-open OSS and figure what's missing. Add the missing windows from the list above. Save. Re-load

WhaLa!
