Sure, this probably doesnt really warrant starting a thread about, but Im a happy man right now and wanted to share my excitement with other amiga people  :)
As some regulars here may be aware Ive been awaiting the arrival of a "new" apollo 1240 '040 accelerator for a few weeks now. Well today the parcel finally arrived  :)
Not only am I happy to get it, but I also discovered it's a 40mhz version, as opposed to the 28mhz version I expected it to be  :) Mach131 chip as well, so I'll do the '060 upgrade sometimes soonish (after I find a few other bits and pieces I want).
I didnt even have a working a1200 at the start of the year, and then was using a stock a1200 for a month or so, so Im more than a little happy to now have the '040 card  :)
Looking forward to setting up some software now (my current setup is very minimal, awaiting the arrival of the accelerator), and playing some of the old classic amiga games I didnt play much back in the day, as well as making a nice Workbench setup, not to mention all the other benefits an accelerator and extra ram offers vs. a stock a1200  :)

Expect excessive classic amiga talk from me for a while now, at least until the novelty wears off  :)

Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

Very cool! Getting new Amiga goodies such as accelerators, display cards and well... anything legacy wise is always exciting. Cheers!

Congrats on your new purchase, reckon it being a 40Mhz version is quite a nice wee surprise, enjoy your new souped up miggy and get as much fun out of it as you can, it'll  hopefully be a long while before the novelty wears off... :)

Dunno if you've got an 060 CPU yet but there's a perfect one on eBay just now sitting at around £6.50 might be worth checking out if your thinking of doing the upgrade in future...:)

Having a few problems transferring files at the moment (long story, but essentially Im restricted to using 720KB pc floppies at the moment to transfer stuff), so for now Ive just tried a few things I had installed or on floppies. I gave Frontier a try and it runs very nicely, massive improvement over a stock a1200  :)

Oh well, time to get serious and start the tedious job of reinstalling the system and all the extras bits and pieces, etc. Once that's out of the way I'm gonna start having fun checking out some amiga fps and other games that will take advantage of a faster amiga  :)

...and of course, the biggest thrill of all: it actually *worked* when you plugged in!  Always a bit of a nervous game when paying a lot of money for used stuff.

What is the maximum memory this accelerator of apollo can get?I too have an apollo 68040 but with only 16 mbytes of ram.Would it be possible to get 128 or 256?Is there some chip that can be upgraded for this to happen?Has anyone managed to get more ram?

Try here for info... :) (according to this it's 32MB or 64, depending on model)

Yeah, unfortunately it's only 32 or 64. 32 by default, but its possible to add a second simm slot allowing for another 32.

Heh, true.
The whole thing had me a bit nervous really. After a week of absolutely no response by the seller, besides a few regarding his near insistance that I pay via direct bank deposit (to a point where he gave me a few different bank account details), and him not responding to mails afterwards I was getting a bit nervous. After nearly 2 weeks he responded basically saying that he'll do it when he gets around to it, and that he doesnt do things the normal ebay way I was bracing myself to the fact I may have been ripped off. Even now the item is still marked as me needing to pay for it  :)

Finally when it arrived I discovered that I'd paid $20 postage for $5.80 worth of postage, which irked me a little, but I was just happy that it arrived. I must admit though, the item itself is in very good condition. That said though I was nervous as all heck the 1st time I flicked the power switch  :)

What are you going to do with all that RAM? Mine runs out of chip ram way before I've even used 8Mb of Fast Ram. I don't understand what people do with their Amigas who can make use of this much Fast. Maybe I am missing a trick?!

I have 256MB of fast ram on my Blizzard060/PPC and even with that much memory I can still run out of RAM... Why...

If like me you edit & mix a lot of 44.100Khz Stereo AIFF sound samples (CD Audio Tracks etc...) even with 256 MB of ram it can be a tight squeeze at times, or editing 24Bit full colour images in ImageFX is another example where you can easily use up this much memory... :)

There's a lot more to the Amiga than just games you know... :)

(PS:What are you doing to run out of chip mem ???)
