absolutely. i would desperately love to have a laptop capable of running OS4.  AROS is already available, yes, but it is not for me.  i try every icaros release, hoping it will be, but it isn't nearly as polished (yet).  maybe in the future, but for now, would much prefer to have OS4 available for x86/x64 hardware.

"Maybe" tending toward probably not.

I'd like to try it out but it wouldnt replace Windows and Mac for everyday use.

No, AROS is already there.  Why would I buy OS4 if AROS is already there?

not intending to derail the thread -- but, out of curiosity, would you be interested in purchasing a copy of morphOS if the team ported it to x86/x64 hardware?  this is totally theoretical, of course, as i believe the dev team has explicitly ruled out such a port in the forseeable future....

I think this poll is pretty worthless since there will never be an Intel (or AMD if you want to be splitting hairs) version of OS4.

We have AROS and maybe there will be WorkBench5 but there won´t be any AmigaOS on Intel except for in UAE. Why you would be fantasizing about this is beyond me.

Sick and tired these kind of threads :(

Why would I run anything amiga related with x86 hardware??? Win/linux do everything better and if there is no "amiga" hardware, why to bother?

After x86 port, 50% devs would quit and first app would be somekind of sandbox wich allows to run window/linux top of the amigaos, so no need to native amiga apps :D

There islots of possible PPC hardware, but no will to made them materialize :(

If OS 4.x were made to run directly on x86/64 hardware, would you buy it?

No. I have more faith in AROS than in OS4 and AROS is already there.

No. Putting aside my issues with Hyperion, what OS4 software is there that there isn't an equivalent or better version of available on OS X, Windows, Linux, etc.? OS4 software development is very stagnant, nothing noteworthy has appeared in the 6+ years it's been around - so, no. No thanks.

I had to answer honestly....  No.  Like others have said, it would be a giant overlap with AROS.  And, honestly, aside from some occasional tinkering, and checking in now and then, I don't really use AROS enough to buy it, either.  Fortunately AROS is actually free, so this isn't an issue.  :D

Very interesting responses, thank you all for your responses.

I was actually quite surprised by some of the responses but I do understand them.  I have to admit I thought more people would be enthusiastic about the move to cheaper hardware but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I voted no because I'm using a much better OS, Linux. Besides, AROS is already available and has IMHO a much brighter future than OS4 because it's open source.

No, and why would you?  As cool as OS 3.1/4 was it's been in development stagnation for years.  There are a number of free and commercial operating systems that have gone way beyond its capabilities.   I like OS 3.0 on my A1200 but would I run it on modern hardware?  Not really, besides just to say I did.

I know that some here don't agree, but I really dislike the idea of Amiga being reduced to an operating system.  The hardware is/was, in part, what made it special.  While modern Mac/PC/Linux boxes have been reduced to operating systems today (largely), some of the video game consoles are still special mostly because of their hardware.

No. Windows does everything I need on a PC. Amiga OS 3.x does all I need on an Amiga.

That would be pretty much that for me too... But still hoping for NATAMI -project to materialize.
