Amikit or the real thing

Sat here using Windows 7 and Amikit, how many use Amikit to the real thing?

To be honest I use Amikit for the speed.  And yes I have an Amiga 1200 in a power tower case but at times its hard to use one over the other.

But with Amikit its speed sorry to say any real Amiga cant beat.

Amikit is hard to beat for the price, if you don't like messing with hardware it's a good way to go.

I mostly like messing with hardware, though.

Same here I use Amikit once in a while, I like Amiga Forever's new version, the Amiga Sys version is pretty cool. The thing I don't like about Amikit is the register box for Directory Opus, it stops there instead of loading right up. I refuse to buy a windows version of Directory Opus because I feel no need for it. Not only that but I never did like Directory Opus, I always preferred Disk Master.

Your right up to a point (well, my point...it obviously works well for you!)

I want any Amiga to be the primary OS, any tinkering I do, I want to know it's the Amiga fault (ok...mine) and not the underlying OS.

I cart my A1200 from room to room, and in a bag to a friends to watch demo's, I can't do that with my tower. It plugs into my 42" LCD to probs.
It boots up in seconds, so I can get on with playing. My vista PC just seems to get slower with age.

I do use Amikit at work, 'cos I still use Dpaint/PPaint sometimes, for paletted bitmaps.
It's not an either or for me.

Since Ive gotten a real 1200, I rarely if ever use emulation, but thats personal preference.

You can use MorpheuZ program (located on desktop) to switch from Directory Opus to Workbench or Scalos environment, which doesn't require any registration.

Buying Windows version won't provide you with Amiga Directory Opus serial anyway.

About a month ago I got my 1st working a1200 in a few years, and Im really enjoying working with the machines own characterstics, rather than blurring the experience with raw speed. Now dont misunderstand me, Im also a big fan of Amithlon and have a dedicated machine for it, so I can appreciate running OS3.x on faster hardware. It's pretty impressive how capable it is still these days with enough raw grunt. Ultimately my answer would have to be something like "both", although amithlon rather than Winuae for me (Ive used Winuae a fair bit over the last 15 or so years, and am fairly well versed with it, but for me the host os gets in the way of me being able to focus on using the amiga side "seriously". Also not having to use things like amiga tcp/ip stack, not having to deal with file systems/partitioning on amiga side, not being able to define custom rtg graphics modes and so on. It's all personal tastes as to whether these things are a concern I guess, but it's more that these things are a distraction to me, and I find it hard to ever feel like things arent temporary setups).

I just use UAE in a barebones XP install.  Never even see the XP side after you have it set up properly.  I find it works flawlessly.

Yeah, Ive seen that (in fact didnt I give you that url in a thread you started a month or so ago?) and even taken it a little further, but it still doesnt quite sit comfortably with me, although it did take a bit longer for it to start to bug me. The fact it's a Winuae machine will and does show its head from time to time, it's unavoidable. That's just me though, Im sure there's plently of people who'd be completely content with a similar type setup. Winuae is an impressive piece of software, it's just not really for me any more than occasionally.

Except for an FPGAarcade or Natami, I'm not going back to the old hardware. I have lots of good memories though.
I stick with Windows XP for the moment and it doesn't get in your way after you turn off a lot of the silly stuff.
