How many Zorro slots? (2,3,4K)
« on: January 23, 2011, 11:31:47 PM »
This might be a dumb question, but I'd rather hear from actual users than what is on wiki or whatever.
For the amiga 2000, 3000 and 4000, how many Zorro slots do they come with?
Any difference between the desktop and tower models (for 3K and 4K) ?

Likewise, any difference between the Amiga technologies 4000 tower and the rather rare Commodore ones ?

Thanks in advance!

The Commodore A4000T is in a custom Amiga case.  The Amiga Technologies version is in a PC case, complete with 'Turbo' button.

Pfft.

I wasn't aware of that. I am assuming the turbo button wasn't actually connected to anything?

A2000 has 5 Zorro II slots
A3000 has 4 Zorro III slots

...in the case of the A3000, the Zorro slots are inline with a video slot, so if you've got a video card installed, you've got 3 Zorro slots left. I believe the A4000 is configured just like the A3000 when it comes to expansion cards, 'cept it might have one more inactive ISA slot.

Unrelated, do they all have the slots for PC bridgeboards or was that a 2000 specific thing?

Also, do the Tower versions have different number of slots?

Turbo button turns on and off the internal speaker in the 4000T.

The motherboards in the C= 4000T and the AT 4000T are the same.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug

they are near-identical.  Even down to the silk screening on the motherboard.  However, some of the cards (the modules) like AV Modules, (disk and port) have different silk screening and perhaps very minor differences in components (like different caps, or a different colour circuit board), and even some motherboards have updated text on them, but otherwise, they are 99.9% the same, including the number of Zorro slots.

The only other difference (aside from the case), is that the Amiga Technologies 4000T had a DD floppy drive and a different floppy cable/adapter to get the PC floppy drive to work, as the floppy (and HD floppy) drives made for the Amiga were no longer available.

Sweet, thanks!

Can you confirm its 4 slots for the 4000?

The Amiga 4000 Desktop has: 4 Zorro III slots, one in-line Video slot, three in-line 16-bit ISA slots.

The Amiga 4000 Tower has:  5 Zorro III slots, two in-line Video slots, four 16-bit ISA slots, three of which are in-line with the Zorro slots.

Not quite true, both use an identical standard Enlight AT case, the Commodore had a different front to the AT machines. There is even a promo picture available somewhere that shows a C= 4000T in the exact same case as the AT versions, but with a C= logo.
