Plans for >800MHz G4 AmigaOnes?

It is probably too early to say, given the AmigaOnes have only just been released but... :-)
Has anybody heard word from someone at Eyetech about their intentions for faster G4 chips in the 'One?

Have they said anything about IBM PPC 970s?  These would be a possibility even though they are 64 bit since they have a native 32 bit mode.  Then OS4 or its successors can be 64 bit-ed and have a ready market.  :-D

I don't recall anything being said just yet regarding the PPC970.  I wouldn't expect them to sit on their butts and pass it up for the next gen systems.

For now, however,  it would be suicide for the A1-SE and XE to announce plans that far ahead without these even being out the door.  Let's get the first round of AmigaOnes running with OS4, and I'm sure things will start to evolve.

In several major companies / institution, they plan to upgrade 2 or 3 years old Pentium III PC with speed of less than 1 GHz with 2+ GHz Pentium IV.
They cann't justify buying new computers with clock speed less than 1 GHz.

Eyetech should clarify the CPU daughter board situation.  Is the PowerLogix 1.2 GHz CPU board compatible with AmigaOne board?

Bplan had announced plan to create next generation of Pegasos boards based on IBM 970 (1.8 - 2 GHz).

Putting the IBM PPC 970 in the current / new Amiga One would be pointless.  The 970 supports up to  900 mhz frontside bus and the A1 is a 133 mhz bus.  When available, buy a new mobo.  The 970's minimum bus level is like 400 mhz.

Lots of info on overclocking Mac g3/g4 modules. The A1 AFAIK uses the same socket as the latest MACs.

The first thing i'm gonna do when i get my A1 take loads of photos and post them here, start a FAQ, compatibilty stuff. Linux How2's etc. & a review of it.

The 800Mhz G4 is probably the best choice at the moment, especially when programs start to make use of the Altivec/VMX-support. It will take a while before we see the PPC 970 supported in AmigaOS.

Also, the mid-range 700Mhz G3 is a perfect choice, too, cause in normal operations, it proves to be FASTER than the G4 at 800Mhz! It may due to the 512kb L2-cache and how the 750FX G3 was designed. IBM has done an incredible job on the PPC chips! I am very happy about my choice, and a good advice to all of you! If you want ram, and if you live in Norway, go to PSData.no and you will be able to order to ECC 133 Registered 512MB SDRAM DIMMs for almost 1500 NOK!!!! One cost 729NOK! NO KIDDING!!!! This is the CHEAPEST i have seen yet!!! I was VERY suprised to see this! Great stuffs!!!!

Given that all Amiga software out at the moment will happily run on a 233MHz PPC, the entry level G3SE @ 600 MHz is more than enough for my computing requirements.
Despite developers coding away at new AmigaOne programs, and AmigaOne-specific versions of their software, it will be at least another year (and by that I mean 12 months, not 3 weeks) until we see some software that fully take advantage of the nextgen Amiga hardware.

Well, in term of sofware, i guess you may be right, but the AmigaOne will have the advance of running Linux, and you can also run MacOS on Linux, so you should be just fine:-). Yes, i believe the 600Mhz G3-SE is more than enough, but XE allows you to upgrade your CPU at a later date, if you wish.

The first run of AmigaOnes may not be so very impressive itself, but when they start to support DDR/DDR-2 and 4x/x8 AGP among other things, then the real fun will start:-). Anyway, the AmigaOne deserves all attention, and it deserves the chance to join the market again:-)
