SCSI Hard Drive prices

What happened to the price of 50-pin SCSI hard drives?

I haven't looked for one for a while.  The Buy It Now prices on eBay are now ridiculous!  Even for small drives (less than 500MB).

Ahhh Good old Crapbay it really is becoming a place to avoid.
If you were in Sydney i could spare you a drive or 2.

Feebay sellers use to get their 50-pin SCSI hard drives from old Macintosh computers that they found at their local Goodwill stores. Then, some jerk goes on Good Morning America and shows how easy it is to get people's personal information from off of those old hard drives. So, now Goodwill stores remove the hard drives from PCs and they nolonger take in the older Macintosh computers. Also, most Goodwills will not accept computers that are over 15 years old. So, the old 50-pin SCSI hard drives are now very hard to find, and they are nolonger produced, hence the higher prices on feebay.

SCSI drives always were more expensive than IDE, and most manufactures these days tend to only do IDE & SATA...

Here in the UK most stores (even online) only do IDE & SATA, it's quite difficult to find SCSI drives and when you do the prices are ridiculous when you compare them to IDE/SATA... :(

I spoke to Seagate about 4 months ago when I was looking for some new 500GB IDE HDs and IDE/ATAPI DVD burners and was told by them that they have already begun to phase out the production of IDE HDs & CD/DVD drives in favour of SATA drives.

The chap I spoke to said in less than two years time the only IDE/ATAPI drives available will be old stock or second hand stuff if you can find it. I never asked about SCSI as I'm not sure if Seagate even manufacture them anymore...

When the guy asked why I couldn't just use SATA devices and I explained it was for the Amiga, well I totally lost him at that point... :)

Yes, all SCSI drives are excessively priced, not just the 50-pin variety.  It is for this reason I am ditching my big PowerEdge 2500 for a cheap tower and a SATA RAID card.
