What's Your Amiga Do...
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:01:00 PM »
Thought it might be a nice idea for folk to post a video of their Amiga in action on You Tube, simple enough so I thought... boy was I wrong... :(

Started of by recording my A1200 into my Panasonic DVD/HD recorder, excellent results high quality RGB picture. Next I burnt the video to a DVD and went to my Mac to transfer the video over and convert it to a .mov file from the DVDs .vob file.

No chance... the MAC wouldn't recognise the.VOB files and after much mucking about I ended up having to copy the DVD onto my Hyundia multi media recorder, convert it to am .mpg file copy this to an SD card, transfer the .mpg file to the MAC convert the .mpg file to a .mov file and upload to you tube.

Only to be told after 3 hours uploading to you tube the file has been removed cos it's too long, seems your only allowed a maximum of 15 minutes playtime per video and this one was 23.... aaaarrrrgggghhhhh...

Anyway I've now split it into two separate videos and upload it again, gwad knows why as this one was only meant to be a test video to figure out how to do this, but after all that malarky this one's gonna have to do for now until if find an easier way to create and upload an Amiga video... :)

So be be warned these videos are total rubbish and the narrative I've added, well lets just say after viewing them even I don't understand half the keech I'm gibbering in them,  so watch them at your peril and sorry there are no subtitles and boy do I gibber some nonsense when I'm talking to myself... :)

My A1200 Part (containing the dreaded OS4.0)

If anyone actually watched these all the way through, you have my sympathies... :)

Anyone out there know of an easy way to record the miggie in RGB and convert it to a video for YouTube... :)

On Mac, see if "Handbrake" is still around.  I seem to remember it doing a good job ripping DVDs to AVI back in 2005 or so when I was doing that.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug
Alienware M14x i7 laptop running AmigaForever

There's a billion and one ways to convert between file formats. If youre eager enough you could even do it on your amiga with something like mencoder (which has a 68k version).
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

@ tone007

Forgot about Handbrake, giving it a try right now, there were plenty of other utils I downloaded to try but the quality was poor in conversion and you needed to purchase the full package to do anything longer than 5mins... and after seeing the poor quality I don't fancy paying for the things... :)

@ fishy_fiz

I have mencoder on one of my HDs never actually tried it yet, need to have a wee look at it... :)

@ Mechy

The videos are naff to be honest, I was just trying it out to see how to get the best quality on YouTube, cos whatever you tube does to them they seem to end up with a lot of blocking and the contrast seem as bit washed out after they've encoded them... :)

@ ribdevil1

It's Scottish... don't worry after watching them myself I don't even understand half the stuff I was babbling on about... :)

The games launchers were written by myself, but I don't think they'd be any use to anyone else as you'd need to set up you games files like I do, which after trying before to do for others who had asked, I realised that it's a wee bit too complicated and time consuming to do.

You can download them from my CommodoreScotland.com site but unless your willing to LZX archive all your WHDLoad files and write a small script for each of them and create drawers form A to Z and quite a few other things, then it is as I say wee bit complicated and time consuming... :)

Great vids Franko, I enjoyed watching them :)

Impressed by your workbenches, all you're lacking is RTG Graphics...

I remember you asking about Mediators before, is your Amiga currently in a Desktop or Tower?

Steve.

Steve.

My main A1200s in a custom built tower (there are pictures of it in my profile page). I checked out the new Mediator board specs but I'm now not sure if I really want to spend the cash on it, as I wonder just how much use I'd get out of it.

As you can see from the videos I like to run the Amiga in a very basic fashion, even with my current set up I could have fancy backdrops and all sorts of eye candy but I prefer a very basic looking setup (it's just the way I like it for some reason)... :)

The other thing that's putting me of a Mediator set up is if something happend to my BlizzardPPC I won't be spending another £500 on ebay again to get a new one, this is really putting me of the idea of spending a load of cash on the Medaitor...

I've been pretty convinced now for a number of weeks that the Natami might be the next thing for me to try out, although I do wonder if it will ever appear and I've ruled out the X1000 for now mainly due to the lack of updates from A-Eon and their claim that it would be here by the end of 2010 (although I guess they still have just over 48 hours to go...)

What about if you mounted rad and then used Reboot would Rad still be there?

Fancy a job as an interpreter for me next trip down to the border, cos I stand there shouting abuse at the sassenachs all day and they don't even know what I'm saying, so all those insults just go to waste...

I could make out most of what you were saying, but had to really concentrate. Certainly doesn't match up with the english that us danish kids learned in school :)

I powered on my A500 last night. Worked, with an odd graphical glitch affecting the top scanlines. Probably due to some sync problems with the LCD I used.

Tried my A1200, worked for a bit then crashed, wouldn't reboot... The end. :(

Hmmmm..... If I grab a video from YouTube using RealPlayer, it comes in as a .flv file. So, do you upload a .mov file to YouTube and YouTube converts it to .flv as it uploads? Or does RealPlayer convert the  .mov to .flv as I download it?

How do I record the output of a Cybervision 64/3D GFX card into the AV1 (scart input) of my Sony RDR-HXD860 DVD Recorder?
