How to fit my Indivision ECS in my A2000
« on: December 28, 2010, 10:17:55 PM »
Hi.

I may be dumb, or maybe it's because it's late here, but i can't fit my Indivision ECS into the Denise Socket in my rev 6.3 A2000.
I have double checked the correct orientation on the manual. Still i can't insert it just because it pushes on Paula!!! The Indivision socket legs are too short.
How comes??

What am i doing wrong?

Maybe this applies?

Quote
Amiga 2000 (Rev. 4.1 and 4.3 only, other revisions have no such limitation):
Due to space constraints, one electrolytic capacitor must either be moved or replaced by a flatter version.

Nope, i have Rev 6.3 and it's not a cap problem. It's Paula that comes on the way.
I bought this Indi second-hand some months ago. Maybe something is bad with it. How long should the socket pins be?

Just add an extra socket or risers, I also do this with 68000 cpu cards.

Yeah but shouldn't it work as is? The manual does not mention anything about risers.

This is the first I've heard of the ECS Indivision having stubby legs. Did the pins get smooshed in on transit or something?

On a serious note, this is the first I've heard of the ECS Indivision having stubby legs. Did the pins get smooshed in on transit or something?

Shouldn't be too hard to get them right, been there, done that :hammer:

I'll open my machine, I am sure my Indivision has a riser socket. Actually just check downstairs, it does have an extra riser socket

So yours needed the riser socket too?

If someone wants to do the dual monitor thing, would a riser socket and two of these bad boys sit too high for the drive bay/power supply cage in an A2000?

Gosh... you guys are going about this all wrong. All you need to do is desolder Paula's socket, solder her directly to the mobo and use her socket as a riser for the ECS Indi if you still needed to! See how easy upgrading your Amiga is?

Your Indivision is missing the lower socket then!!!
Every Indivision ECS is equiped with a black socket that is inserted in those short pins.

Just grab a socket from a local electronic store. If you can't find an 48pin socket, just get 2x40pin ones (that they are more common) and cut the remaining required pins like I did:

Although it's putted on the socket of an A603 for a different reason... you get the picture.
I guess, since it's second hand... the previous user who pulled from his mobo... left the socket in his mobo instead of the Indy :D
No worries, easy fix.

Yes i had the confirmation from Jens Schoenfeld that my Indi is lacking the socket.

Anyone could point me to a source on an internet shop? There is no such thing as an electronic store where i live.
