External Genlock wanted

If you've got one collecting dust in your closet, I'd like the use of it.

Stands to reason that when you need one, none show up on Ebay, and the guy selling one on Craigslist is asking too much. I can pay with money order, and check. Thanks.

How soon do you need one?  I have a couple of GVP G-Lock (PAL) spare, but I'm stuck here in Antarctica until November 2011.  Can organise something then if you can wait that long.

I don't need it too soon thankfully. Its a project for a friend who spends his time on an Aircraft carrier on long deployments.

Any difference between NTSC and PAL genlocks that I should be aware of?

Just use a Video Toaster (Amiga 2000 version) and the version 2.0 software.  The VT has a built-in genlock and the version 2.0 of the Toaster software is very easy to use.

The Video Toaster is a good idea if you can find one.

Differences between the PAL and NTSC G-Lock is the video system they support.  As I recall, they're not easily changable between the two standards.  If your friend is on a US carrier, they'll probably be using NTSC, so a PAL G-Lock probably won't help.

Just remembered I have a DCTV (NTSC version), working, with disks that you can have for the price of freight.  Not a genlock, but quite cool all the same if you want to mess with video.

Thanks Michael! The GVP looks quite nifty. It certainly looks like something I could best use. I already have a Toaster 4000 board, but no software or anything else that would make it useful.

My friends project is not connected to the Navy, but his railroad hobby and his YouTube channel which I've helped out on using DeluxePaint.

I like the idea of having a DCTV Castellen. Any excuse to play with Amiga is a good idea. I'll PM you.

@Amiduffer
If you have a toaster 4k, just call newtek and get a 3.5 toaster cd (guess maybe 29.95)
Use the built-in genlock on either the 3000d of or the 4000d.

Michael

I sent PM with price and advice...

How cute. I've been contacted by someone in Germany about his genlock. He says that he hasn't turned it on in 15 years (no computer, so of course he can't test it), it had problems then, he's never posted on the forum before, says that he's unlikely to post much at all, and wants $70. :lol:

What a deal.
