WinUAE problems
« on: December 24, 2010, 06:56:47 AM »
I'm not sure if this goes in hardware or software.  :-)

I setup winuae with an a500 setup and all is well.  But with the 68060 a4000 setup, not so much.  The workbench disk image I have wouldn't boot.  But the install disk would.  It installed 3.1 to the "hard drive" just fine.  But booting from the hard drive is causing a guru meditation.  It's 8000 0004.  I've fiddled with all sorts of settings but to no avail.  Google didn't produce much either.  Any ideas?

68060 needs special drivers (libraries) installed before it works. Try 68040, it's the same speed under emulation. Even 68020 runs at the same speed and offers highest compatibility to all kinds of Amiga software.

68060 libraries can be downloaded there: http://phase5.a1k.org/

Indeed I don't think there's any real benefit to emulating anything other than an 020

Well when installing workbench on a real 68060 A4000 on a blank hard drive it can be VERY awkward to try to boot up with the workbench Install disc which doesn't have room to fit the 68060 libraries.  And no I can't just take the CPU card out beacsue it has no motherboard CPU.  For me having Winuae to set up the installation with the 68060 emulation is a godsend:to check that it works as it should with the 68060 libraries before moving the compact flash card across to the real A4000.

You only need to put the dummy library on the disk. The other libs can be copied to the HDD manually later.

i didn't know that! Where were you about 6 years ago! thanks a million!

btw I renamed the commodore 68040.library to 68040old.library and the p5 68040dummy.library to 68040.library and the install disk boots on both the Apollo1260 and the A4000 68060.  Brilliant.
