How to sell Amiga items???
« on: December 21, 2010, 05:59:25 PM »
Hello all... I have many Amiga items that I will be selling very soon.  Would it be better to sell the entire collection of items all together or to sell individual items?

Personally, I'd say individual items. It's pretty aggravating when I see something I'd like for auction, but only as part of a lot that I can't afford/don't want/don't have room for.

(And from the seller's side, more separate auctions means more chances for bids to go up!)
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

First thing I'd recommend is filling out your profile so people know where in this great wide world you are. Second, yeah... make up a list of individual parts and put prices next to them if you think you know what they're worth or would like to get. Know that shipping across seas is expensive, inconvenient, risky and time laden. People are no longer patient today and many will file a PayPal claim thinking the item got lost, you're a thief OR them actually trying to scam YOU by claiming they never received it or "item not as described"! We're a great bunch of people here at A.org, just talking in general. Too many eBay and PayPal scams these days if you're thinking about ever going that route. Not to mention all the fees you incur dealing with both institutions today.

You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well...

Oh wait, no.  The question is "Do I feel like shipping out 20 little boxes or one big box."

It does depend on the items you're selling though.  If they're small inexpensive (<$20) things, I'd tend to go with one big lot unless you like playing postman.

If you're going to sell them here then make sure you sell them for exactly one tenth of what you paid for them, one quarter of their actual value or, better still, free!  Otherwise you'll get hung, drawn and quartered for "ripping off the community" or something.

Make sure you only accept PayPal because everyone here is a fan of PayPal and will refuse to pay in any other way.  EBay is good too, because we love eBay fees and so should you.

Don't forget to describe any broken parts as "working last time I tried them, but sold 'as is' due to age".  We all know that is code for "buggered beyond repair".

Pour treacle into any keyboards before you mail them and add a few cigarette burns for good measure.  Any loose keys should be yanked off with a screwdriver and superglued firmly into place (upside down).
