That's correct they wanted to end on a high and they did. In fact I think they released some heavy duty software stuff on the last disk. Talking of the disks they gave away SCALA 100MM free which was a fantastic piece of software.

CU gave away some amazing software. Here's a link to the last ever issue:
http://amr.abime.net/issue_668

Not their best CUCD TBH, but then they were probably more focussed on making the last issue

Well, as the question was which ones you bought, I guess not

Seriously, you actually stole copies?

Well... they were unsold and sitting outside the shop in a metal box waiting to be picked up and returned to source I think.

When a mate told me there were Amiga magazines sitting outside the local shop I was 100% convinced he was taking the piss (seeing as CU and AF had closed).

Imagine my surprise!!

@ motorollin

I loved AUI, it taught me a lot about programming in 68K and they even gave away special crib cards with every Guru Meditation on them... :)

Sorry bout the avatar... I'll try and find something to give you your 250 pixels back... :)

+1 for AUI. Some of their screenshots were also a bit risqué which other mags wouldn't show. Their cover disks were great - 984K on the second disk with diskspare on the first, quotes were like "6
MBs worth of software on 2 disks!" This was the only mag I could reliably get from the local newsagent!

I had the same reaction when I wandered into a local news agent to buy a snack. I casually looked over over the computer section of the magazines and there it was, issue 1 of Amiga Active.

I hadn't even heard of it at that point as I wasn't really keeping up with what was going on (even though I was using my machine daily, I wasn't online). I practically had to rub my eyes.

So, naturally I bought it :)

I thought it was a nice mag, actually. Especially given it's appearance at a time when I thought amiga print magazines in the UK had finally ceased forever.

I was an avid AmigaWorld reader. In fact, I'm currently reading all of the back issues now thanks to the folks over at bombjack.org.

It's weird reading these issues. I find myself remembering the articles and ads even though it's been 15+ years since I read them. It makes me miss the Amiga even more. :(

+1 for Amiga Active. It had good editorial even though events in the Amiga's life were pretty gloomy.

Back in the good old days I liked Amiga Shopper closely followed by Amiga Format.

I mostly read three magazines: Amiga Magazin (German), Amiga Magazine (Dutch, bimonthly issues) and Amiga Shopper (English).

I really disliked most English or American Amiga magazines (the same goes for C64/128 magazines, for that matter), as I found most of them focussing far to much on the gaming side of the Amiga (or the C64 before that) and often ignoring the rest.

I liked German computer magazines (still do), having a good mix of hardware- and softwaretests, programming, hardware hacking, articles for both beginners and insiders. Most Dutch magazines relating to the C64 or the Amiga were utter crap, apart for Amiga Magazine, a (still) highly readable magazine.

Atm, I have all issues of Amiga Magazin (Dutch), quite some issues of Amiga Magazin (German), but unfortunately only a couple of issues of Amiga Shopper. Hope to find more somewhere in the not to distant future.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

CU Amiga
Amiga Format

It really sucked those months when they both had the same demo games on the cover floppy.

Occasionally I would get an Amiga Power and The One Amiga (I'd get a pile of magazines at Christmas). What others were there in the UK?

I subscribed to AmigaWorld (on and off, mostly on) all through the late 80's to mid 90's. Besides AmigaWorld, I'd purchase the random Info, Amiga Transactor or Amazing Computing from time to time. Really though, for my money, I really enjoyed AmigaWorld best. Still do. Amazing Computing, while there may be some great tech stuff here and there, was rather drab for an Amiga magazine. I liked the formatting (along with the color, ads and paper quality) of AmigaWorld much better.

In the early to mid 90's, some of our bookstores and video game boutiques were getting foreign Amiga mags. I remember Amiga Format and their cover disks real well. $10 or more a pop though, so pretty pricey. I remember thinking the foreign Amiga mags looked too "busy" and cartoonish for my tastes, but they were fun for what they were - the 11x14 behemoths! lol   I've only seen a mag or two from a few of the different foreign mags, so can't really comment any further, 'cept they seemed to be heavily centered on gaming. Was my impression anyway. I have drawers full of AF and CU coverdisks I got in on trade a while back. Should really see what they're all about one of these days. I've got disks from all these mags:

Amiga Format
Amiga CU
Amiga Magazine
Amiga Shopper

...it'd be nice if someone came up with a complete listing of all Amiga mags in publication and where they were from at one time. I'm curious to see all the British and European 'zines that were around. Any from Australia or New Zealand? Okay, I'll start with all the ones I'm aware of in North America:

Ahoy!
Amazing Computing
Amiga Resource (Compute!)
AmiExchange
AmigaWorld
Info
The Transactor
