I know very little about the game, but I seem to remember that FreeCiv is roughly comparable to Civ2 (and ported).  Or am I just talking rubbish? :-?

Civ3 should get ported over :-D
Civilization II call to power is a complete shambles though

I bet with a copied graphics tileset and minimal rules bendings, you could make FreeCiv exactly like Civ2...

Unoccupied people in FreeCiv can be a performer, taxman or (I can't remember the third character) like in Civ3 so FreeCiv is already better than Civ2.

Yea, no kidding.  I was thrilled when it first came out but when I bought it and started it playing it?  WTF! :-x

Civ2 is better than freeciv, no need to start tcp ip stack and playing against computer opponents is not fun with freeciv

Instead of wasting time wishing for a Civ2 clone, why not help the guys who are working on Realms of Power? It looks better than FreeCiv and looks like its giving Civ2 a run for its money.

This one looks to GFX overloaded IMHO. I liked the original Civilization most. (And played it some complete nights, only stopped bevore 9 AM as I had to arrive to work until 9 AM ;) GFX eye cande might be nice for the customer in the shop or for tha hfather selecting a game for his son, but I find it often disturbing in the game. The gameplay is the important thing, not the phantastic GFX. If you play chess on a computer a simple board with simple figures is best for example. 3D effects and GFX overloading look nice but are not omportant for long-time-motivation if the üplayer becomes bored....

I am currently playing FreeCiv against my son and I am really happy with it. Stable and comfortable, really a  very good Amiga-port by Sebastian Bauer!

And setting up the TCP/IP stack should not be too difficult for today Amigians ;)

Please dont use the words Civ2 and Call to Power in the same sentance. :-P

The only game purchase that made me physically sick. I am still going to therapy to get over it. Alpha Centauri was a far better game, even though it felt like Sid Mier made it so him and his mates could play it.
yes Call to Power is open source, but I cant see why people would jump on to developing a game from scratch when there are developers out there already working on similar projects in need of help.
I just wish I could do something useful to help.
