Thinking about maybe painting the vertical vents black for a more conventional 4000T look..

Maybe not, who knows.

Tone007, you're our very own sick and twisted Dr. Heiter of Amigas.

But, truth be told, it looks pretty good.  Nice creative reuse.  :D

Good Idea, I like it but it sticks out a little too far, you need to figure out a way to recess it just a bit more.

must be pretty desperate for a door for that naked a4000t..

Indeed!

Personally, the first thing I do with cases using a door (I have had a few) is to rip the door away. Is there anything more annoying than doors that prevents you from accessing the DVD's or whatever you have put behind it? Do they have any function whatsoever other than being an annoying obstacle?

But this was a cool case mod nevertheless! :)

Is the door hinged, if so how did you attach it?

That's my plan, just need to trim about 0.5" off all the way around.

Not yet, but it will be.  I'll be mounting it with a smoothed machine screw on top (into the original hole) and will most likely epoxy a bit of metal with another smoothed out machine screw for the bottom hole.

No offense taken, I was honestly expecting more negative criticism than just this one.

It's an option if the case in question looks good without a door.  I feel the 4000T case doesn't look right without one.

I wouldn't paint it.  While the 4000T might have had a black front, that was not the norm for classic Amigas.  I think the current color achieves the proper retro look better.

About the door blocking things, is there any reasonable way to get the DVD drive to push the door open?  Kind of like the little doors on many newer cases that push a flap open.  I don't know if the drive would have enough force to open that big of a door though.

I bet I could get that to work if I didn't bother with a latch.  Bumper on the left side of the CD drawer to get the best leverage and some smooth hinges would probably do it.

The trick would be getting the door to close back up when the CD drawer closed.  I know that this is probably WAY out of range for the effort/benefit ratio, but what about a tiny momentary switch that would cause a small motor to close the door when the CD drawer closed.  Let it swing free for opening, but when the drive closes, it engages a small motor that closes the door with friction.

Oh Oh and with blackjack and hookers...and forget the Amiga and Blackjack!

I would not attempt to make it close.  No way.
