thats what l thought too and l dont even have iphone . if get amiga brand back lime light thats got be great . can get amiga people talking to others about this app they might get
idea joining amiga org to learn more check out other knowlege of amiga games then hello they get hookerd and want real hardware

Yeah, I think that there is the possibility of the Amiga community growing, but I am not one of the Amiga fans that still believes that the Amiga will ever make a serious come-back, or ever have close to the number of users that the Amiga community once had 15 to 20 years ago.

With that perspective I do however hope that we can get as many old Amiga users back as possible and also hopefully get some new Amiga users along the way too.

My current focus is to try to get more people interested in programming on and for the many different flavors of the Amiga experience (AmigaOne's w/AmigaOS4.x, Mac G4's w/MorphOS2.x, x86 w/AROS and MiniMig/FPGAArcade/C-One/Natami/WinUAE/EUAE & Classic Amiga hardware with AmigaOS3.x) without any fighting or jealousy.  Just good "Amiga" users & programmers creating new apps & games for all of us to use and enjoy, and/or porting existing apps & games from other platforms to the "Amiga" platforms we use and enjoy today!

We need more of this:

:knuddel:   (cooperation, tolerance & appreciation)

&   +  (ideas) which lead to

this  :rtfm:  (new or newly ported "Amiga" programs & games)

which give us this  ;)  (satisfaction & friendships)

which also leads

to this  :laugh1::biglaugh::rofl::razz::D  :drink:   (partying together)

and less of this:

:argue:  or this    :angryfire:

or this  :whack:

or this  :griping:

or this  :smack:

unless it is done for fun and games,

like this  :swords:

or this  :quickdraw:

or this

:flame::destroy:

(smiley fun for 2010)
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Totally sad, and more sad with the modern pronoun "I".

Technology evolution is part of the ecosystem.  Face it, in a few years your watch will have more speed and power than the fastest Amiga ever built and will be able to emulate it perfectly.

I remember the days of boast 'You'll never be able to emulate an Amiga because of the custom chips and hardware, blah, blah, blah' and it was quite humbling to see UAE the first time.

Actually, I had a friend who was a die hard Mac fan and he showed me MacUAE with quite the smug look on his face.  I was quite surprised when I first saw it but it was inevitable.

I know many people here don't like emulators but I think they serve some great functions:

-They are a low cost, low maintenance way to relive your memories without the need to purchase new 'used' hardware which can be expensive and space consuming.

-It allows someone who would have never purchased an Amiga when they were new to have the opportunity to experience what it was really like.  Granted, the experience isn't 100% accurate as saying sitting down in front of an Amiga 3000 but its still very close.

-Hardware will only continue to dry up and prices will soar so only the die hard collectors will be inclined to invest in keeping their collections functioning.

-Emulators allow people to experiment with the hardware in ways that could never be achieved in real life.  Having 32 meg of Chip Memory, much faster drive access, etc...

Toni has done such a fantastic job with WinUAE that he really deserves a great deal of credit.  My only wish list addition would be for WinUAE to emulate the MMU of an 030 for AMIX but its a minor detail.  However, Toni is amazing...

Cheers!

@amigadave
This may be the first time I have disagreed with you. I do agree with all of your points concerning emulators, MorphOS, etc., but I draw the line at iPhone "apps" "Amiga". I use Amikit these days and like it, with the exception of trying to get my old Amiga software installed (That was easy when I had an A1200 with CD burner, but...)
I still try to support most things Amiga. But I fail to see how supporting the iPhone does this in any way shape or form. The iPhone is way down on my list of cell phones.

I do understand where everyone is coming from who don't think this App is a good idea but that is one of the great things about this community, we have diverse views..

I've got the C64 app from the same publisher and I'm looking forward to the Amiga one, as far as I'm concerned the more people Amiga (in whatever incarnation) reaches, the better...

I'd like to think that someone not previously part of the Amiga community would be encouraged by the App to go out and get him/herself some Amiga hardware and if that happens we'll all benefit!

(BTW, there is a spectrum app as well, Frank Bruno's boxing FTW!!)

It's still sad... :(

The trouble with all these silly emulators and apps is, if folk are quite happy to only use an Amiga to play the odd game while sitting on a train or bus and to them that's all they require. Then the market for real Amiga hardware either new or second hand is reduced even further because the aforementioned folk would most likely never bear to part with the cash to buy the real stuff... :(

They wouldn't do that anyway.
It takes nuts like us to buy Amiga h/w ;) :D

The whole problem with hoping that someone who sees such an app will be encouraged to go out and buy some real amiga gear is it's just that, hoping... :(

as Pentad said

Therein lies the problem, most folk will choose an emulator on a pc for the above reason and are very unlikely to seek out real Amiga hardware for the same reasons.

Most of the so called die hard Amigans I grew up with have taken this path and despite the fact that when they visit me I can't get them off my miggies, the miserable sods wont buy any Amiga hardware and spout the excuse given above. So from experience I can say that apps & emulators aren't a good way to encourage folk back to the Amiga and in fact tend to have the opposite effect...

That's why you're here, your already a believer and a compulsive retro geek like the rest of us... :)

If an emulator or an app can bring someone who never knew about the almighty Amiga into the fold that's all well and good, but you'd need to poke them with a long pointy stick and use a crow bar to pry their wallets open and get them to buy the real thing...

It's the one's who have lost the faith and turned to the dark side that get right on my diddies, using an emulator on a puk should be punishable by death if you don't have any real Amiga hardware as well. Hit them over the napper with large blunt objects or roast them slowly over a nice hot spit, that what I say... :madashell:

Or failing any of that nail their hands and feet down in front of their orrible puks and leave them to watch a never-ending loop of Doomy singing Only Amiga until the sinners repent...nothing but a bunch of window lickers the lot of them...

Android rocks. In the states there is this HTC droid incredible and it's aptly named. The Amiga emulator is pretty good. Would love to see a more robust implementation. Next to the Amiga I have noot been happier with a technology purchase.

Also have the Ipod touch and will be pickup up that I-Amiga app.

Lighten up guys. If I had 3 million disposable incomde I'd make a super supr FPGA Amiga with  100% cycle exact compatiblity a CPU slot for PPC or whatever. Until then enjoy whatever Amiga implementations we can get.

I will say that I hope the IAMIGA app resolves the floppy loading situation and keyboard mapping issues well. This is required for an Arcade AMiga experience.

I would also like to see hardfile support.
