Anyone *EVER* seen this??
« on: December 09, 2003, 12:17:09 PM »
Hi folks,

I am looking for some very extremely unbelieably rare things.

They were made by Phoenix Microtechnologies Ply of Australia in the early 90ies (no not the Phoenix people of the PC-BIOS).

The made a replacement board for the A 1000. OK, I got that. They too made:

- a busboard extender giving 2 (or three?) Zorro-II slots in an external case!

- a memory expansion for said replacement board.

Has anyone EVER seen these things???

I mean I sure would like to buy them, but I am not even sure they were produced but maybe only announced????

Have fun,
McTrinsic

Well, the busboard was produced according to The Big Book of Amiga Hardware. I can't find any mention of a RAM expansion for it, though.

I know the entry in the Big Book.

But what I mean is: any of you ever actually SEEN it?

The memory expansion is mentioned in the documentation that came with their Phoenixboard...

Have fun,

I used to have a Phoenix board for my A1000. It was a great system and I used it up to a year after the A3000 came out and sold it to get the A3000. It was an outstanding board. I never did see the ZII board for it, but the RAM board came with mine. I had 16MB of Fast RAM, 2MB of chip RAM and close to A3000 speeds.

What I want to know, is if anyone has ever seen a Viper/EMatrix 530! I've seen a couple of 520s for sale, but never a 530! I'd pay handsomely for one!

I'd pay about £100 / 150 Euro for one, but 250 Euro is a bit excessive!

I had one of the zorro boards a few years back.  Sold it to a collector.

I've seen this unit, here in the US.  The only one I saw, though, was in kind of rough shape, and wasn't for sale.

I have 2 external boxes for the A1000 - the second one is very exciting! -

One unit is the PalJr  which has 2 Zorro (full size Zorro II card do not fit) slots inside, space for a hard drive and if I recall has a clock on board the unit (does not seem to be 2k compliant).  This unit sits on top of a 1000 and has its own power supply.  This model is shown on amiga-hardware.com

Second unit is a large BOX that slaps onto the side of the Amiga (similiar to the Sidecar, but taller), its labelled as 'Turbo Amiga'  it does have a Turbo (full height sized Zorro card) on it.  Plus about 5 other Zorro (I?/II?) slots.  I tested the unit a few weeks ago, the unit works (to my surprise) since this looks more like a prototype than anything.  If I recall the Turbo card is a 020 or could be a 030 running at 28Mhz??
I would like to put it through more tests to see how stable it actually is...

@Acill:

Uhm ... wait - 16 MB RAM on the phoenixboard? The original documentation stated that there was an 8 MB expansion available... So you got the additional 8 from another expansion like the Blizzardboard??

And, do you remember whop you sold it to?  :-D

Have fun,

Yup, i had the full 8MB on the Phoenix, and if I remember the other 8 came from a rejuvinator board or insider board or something. It was one heck of a system.

As to who I sold it to I wish I knew. I've wanted to get it back for a long time. It was sold in Phoenix Arizona back in 1991 for a steal too.  I got $1000 for it.
