First question ... are you SCSI -I or II
External SCSI CD R/W drives are not that hard to find.
( I just sold one on EBay not long ago)

Anyway, its my understanding that most SCSI
devices are backward compatable.
AFAIK a SCSI II device should be compatable on
a SCSI I controller. For CD Roms it should be easy
but for harddrives the compatability  can get
alot more picky.
Stealth ONE  8-)

Thanks, Melott! I be SCSI-I. I'm still windering about connect cable----for A2000. But, your info VERY helpful. There is a god. Maybe I can't see the light yet, but there's the damn tunnel. Thanks again.

Stay vigilant. :-D

Hi jimbo60640 ,

So, you wanna burn Amiga CD-Rs, well first make sure that your "beloved cherished old faithful Amiga" is up to spec.  You will need the following items installed in your Amiga 2000 (Toaster) computer before you can successfully record files onto a CD-R disc:  a 68040 or 68060 board, at least 16 megs of fast ram, a very fast hard drive (7200 RPM or faster with at least a 512k buffer), and a SLOW CD-RW drive (2X to 8X), and CD burning software.  I recommend MakeCD.  Also, I recommend that you use the 3" Mini CD-Rs and NOT the 5" CD-Rs for recording Amiga software onto.  That's what I use, it works great.     :-D

Don't agree on that. A 68030 will do just fine to start with, a 68040 is not required for this. 16 Mb memory is then indeed the minimum. And the MakeCD program that is referred to is far from 'antique' !!!
So you have not many options. You can try to find an ancient scsi cdrewriter, external or internal, and connect it to your scsi controller. Upgrading to kickstart 3.1 might be better but I don't know if this is required. Another option is the following : you get yourself an IDE-to-scsi adapter, made to connect an IDE harddisc to a scsi controller. It's not very cheap but the IDE devices you can connect ARE !! No problem to get a 52x CDrewriter for 40 euro's !!!
About the burning speed now. Ofcourse it will be way slower than on modern pc's but there is also the safe option of 'burn proof' that all new cdrewriters have, so that it won't matter how fast or slow your processor is !! I don't know if this means that you can burn with a 52x CDrewriter on a 68000 A500 with an IDE controller, but it will certainly work on a 68030 !!!

That is true, but with a 68030 board you could only burn CD-Rs at 2X, maybe 4X if your lucky.     :-P

Most A2000 systems came with the GVP HC+8 card, which is SCSI-2 compatable... You'll want a drive that has 4M+ cache built in... I can't comment on how well it'll work with the stock 68000 CPU tho... I usually write CDs for transferring TO my Amigas... Never tried using my writer in em.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

You are wrong about that.  Most Amiga 2000 systems came with Commodore's A2091 board and a Quantum 40 meg or 50 meg hard drive.

Let me rephrase then... Every A2000HD I've seen had the GVP HC+8 (and I've seen 5 of them)...

You don't know what you're talking about! My Amiga 2000HD Professional computer came with a 40 Mb Seagate Harddrive!  :-D
