You shouldn´t equate HTML5 to the Video-tag. OWB 3.30 supports many HTML5 features.

Joerg uses many excuses it seems not to deliver a decent port for the os4 user base. If there was no pay involved maybe public sentiment would be different...

The "someone stupid enough to port the morphos ver of owb to os4" Is my favorite, how silly..

Say what you must, a browser with full HTML 5 support is vital to any current or future Amiga OS 4.x platform. Since, Adobe Flash or for the matter any other similar technology is highly unlikely to appear on an Amiga OS 4.x platform, HTML 5 is the way to go.

Sooner or later more sites will start streaming video via HTML 5. Maybe, then we can start having a more modern computing experience on the Amiga platforms!!

Well Flash will die a death soon (thanks Apple) so I shouldn't be worried about missing out.  Flash is horrendously slow on any non-windows OS I as a Mac user shall be glad to see the back of it.  100% cpu usage, Safari (the browser) crashing or hanging for several seconds is a daily ritual on flash websites ran under Mac OS.  HTML5 is the way forward, Flash is yesterdays very mediocre 'technology'.

Just a reminder to everyone that Fab's wonderful MorphOS version of OWB can not be ported to Aros, AmigaOS3 or AmigaOS4 yet because it uses many new features in MUI4 which aren't included in Zune, MUI3.8 or MUI3.9. However, once Zune is updated to include all these extra MUI4 features, OWB shouldn't be too hard to port over. Zune is an open-source clone of MUI, but is currently only around the same level as MUI3.9 (the OS4 version of MUI) though it can eventually replace MUI on OS4 and OS3 (as it already does in AFAOS).

There is currently a bounty to get Zune updated to MUI4 standards so that all Amiga OSs can enjoy a much more updated GUI and make porting between platforms far simpler. If you are serious about wanting a HTML5 browser for your Amiga, this is a good way to show your support and actually increase our chances of getting it.

That's a bit too optimistic I'm afraid. Flash will be there for years to come.

I think that's a bit harsh now. First off, why does he need to make excuses? It was not his job to deliver a decent port to the OS4 user base. That was not his profession, he was not under any contract or earning a wage for doing so. He was giving his own free time and suffering abuse for it. And second, what pay? Donations were made for work already completed, it was not a bounty. I would've thought someone who represents an Amiga user group would have had a more balanced view on things like this...

There was an interesting spat between afxgroup and joerg. Apparently afxgroup wanted to create a flash plugin for OS4 OWB but joerg would not enable the NPAPI. The exchange was quite heated. As far as I understand it is not possible to complete the gnash bounty without a working plugin.

Anyone followed this further? What was the final outcome?
