160mhz 603e PPC processor and a 25mhz 68040 proccesor. It also comes with a massive 64 Megabytes additional memory Simm.

note that the fan conection has been modified and looks a bit dodgy to me as it is not insulated.

The link is here ppc card
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

sort of good idea but it is nigh-on impossible to transplant the PPC to my Blizzard. Plus the risk of damage is high.

Nice dog! :-)

Hi,

The card is actually mine which im selling as I have 2 of them, cleaning out excessive kit, dont really need two 1200's!

When I bought the card it had the mod done to the wire and ive not had any problems with it. I guess there is a chance of an earthing issue due to the exposed metal around the end of the wire. Insulation tape would rule that out completly or just ensuring the cable is nowhere near the card like I did. Alternatively about £1 at maplin would revert it to its original state.

I made sure I included a close up photo of it however just incase someone got funny after they bought it :)

regards

Darren

What is the reason exactly? Context switching or just general 060 is much faster for 680x0 use?

Assuming the 040/060 have similar memory badwidths on the card (neither can make use of 64 bit access), the 060 has twice the clock, but also twice the cache to push.

Has anybody fully timed the context switches on both systems to see what the effect is?

-edit-

Now I think about it, I did actually time context switches on my machine (040 version) with some free source I found on aminet that manually did context switches in a large loop. IIRC, it was about 600 microseconds under warpos 5.

Anbody got a figure for 060?

I think, as usual, its a case of horses for courses.

I mean, saying that an 040 is dog slow is like saying you wouldn't drive a ford because it ain't as fast as a ferrari

karlos: yes because of context switching and the fact that we only got a OS thats 68k , and kernels such as warpos and powerup struggles on a 040 25 with a ppc onboard.

sure it depends on the coder in most of the time but not when it comes to general useage, alot of people get dissapointed by the lame? speeds you get on a 040ppc compared to a 060 ppc, sure it helps to clock the 040 to 33 or 40 mhz but then again you could always clock to 060 to 62mhz (best cache/mem speed results) or do an overkill clocking to 80mhz like i did a year ago (slow mem speed but the cpu works faster anyway :).

anyway my point is ofcourse mostly targetted at AMIGAOS and its 68k side, since there isnt much ppc games/demos*tools etc to be found so your most likely to sit on the sideline and use a 040 at 25mhz which infact is at many times slower than a 030 50mhz , but this will change as soon as either morphos or os4 is out for bppc or even cspppc (i doubt there is many 040 csppc's left, as its easy to upgrade to 060)...

anyway there is nothing wrong with buying a 040 / 25 card with a ppc on it, but just dont expect it to do miracles oh and dont sell your 060 card to fun it for a 040 ppc just yet, you might regret it alot.

karlos:give me the link to that tool from aminet and i will give u an bppc number (060/240)

cheers

cyberus: erm  no thats not what i said, its the fact that the 040 will cripple ALL ppc performance so much that you will probably just shelf the card for now (while u wait for os4 or morphos).

remeber the 040ppc on cybppc is much faster due to 64bit modes .

oh and i was talking about the comment made about "the 040 is Quite fast" ...

anyway i drive a chrysler and i dont expect it to be a ferrari, thats my point....

just dont expect it to be fast! as it wont...

upgrade the 040 to 060 or clock your 040 to 33mhz and you will increase the performance alot and even more if you do an 40mhz clocking,.

cheers

Thanks for putting my card down :)

I too would like a 240mhz ppc with 060 as well but just cant find one. If I do see one I will buy it and replace my other 160/25 which is still quick for most things. I agree that going from a 060 to a ppc/040 probably isnt the best choice

Any chance of that xtreme racing email? :)
