Best way to clean an A1200 motherboard?

I'm planning to clean up the case of an A1200 I've just dug out the loft with some retrobite and was wondering what the best way to clean the motherboard would be? Can they be washed safely and if so, with what?

Is it really that dirty, dingy, hairy and bug ridden? Brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner wouldn't do the trick? If you're super anal about this sort of thing and want to bring back the illustrious "new" look to the board, I've had extremely good luck spraying 'em down with a cleaner such as Fantastic, Spray Power or window cleaner. Spray the hell out of it (like with a garden hose or basement wash tub), let it sit for a minute or two and then rinse the living snot out of it to where you no longer see any soapy bubbles. I then shake 'em out, wipe 'em down and use a hair dryer to finish the job. If it's nice and sunny out, might even let them sit out for a bit too. A half a day later, you should be able to power the thing up safely.  

I know electronics repairmen that simply throw old boards into their dishwashers... but I wouldn't trust their heating element drying cycle to not damage 'em. I believe the method I've outlined is much safer and you should see the boards I have done. Damn things truly look like new. Sorry about the image quality. Really wish I would have kept my nicer macro lens. Some pics:

...the PeeCee and ][gs boards were F*U*N*K*Y before the wash!  (notice the "fast ram" and "standard ram" monikers on the ][gs board?)  :lol:

So window cleaner and a good rinse and dry is safe enough? I'm not overly anal about these things but as the machine is being stripped down I figured now is the time to clean it up.

Oh, and I got the LEDs working. No idea how, they just lept into life.

Cold solder per chance. If they go out again on you, try wiggling... just a little bit.  lol

...and then make the necessary repair.

Reckon I'll stick with UPVC cleaner than muck around with that toxic stuff (does the same job anyway and a quite harmless to your lungs... :) )

Well, the mother board has one danger, the clock battery, but you can clean the motherboard with one product as contact cleaner use in electronic repairs, or a single way, alcohol of 96ยบ use in medicine cures but with much care, to avoid the plastic and some components sensitive for example the condesators if they hava charge, but with alcohol on a piece of cloth you can clean the motherboard bottom.

I'd second the alcohol. There used to be flurocarbon based solvents you could use, but I don't think they're available anymore.

No 1200 I've ever seen had a clock battery on the motherboard!

I've hosed ugly old A2000 boards off on the sidewalk, but really, most boards I've seen were good enough after a blast of compressed air.

From what I hear there isn't much sun in Scotland, I bet the Amigas don't turn yellow there from anything but tobacco smoke!

Yeah, I live in the Canary Islands, 99% sun... I got my retrobrightning in 3 hours in november...
