The information came directly from Brian Bagnall in an e-mail message to me yesterday and has also been confirmed by Ian Matthews of http://www.commodore.ca   Brian gave me permission to spread the news.  If you have further questions, I can get you in contact with Brian.

Great to hear! Looking forward to this!

This is good news. I have the first book and yes, this is in essence a second edition of the existing book. The First edition it was primised there would be a slew of "additional chapters" for download after it was published. I think he did release one or two. One was on the KIM. This edition adds acording to what I read, interviews with one of the Tramiel's and added information.
I tried ordering this when online bookstores first started listing it and had those cancelled as its date slipped and slipped. I thought for sure we'd never see it.
Great that it is, hopefully, close to our hands.

I never heard of a "slew" of chapters being promised, but Chapter 1.5 was released and was available on the website for quite awhile (1.5 no longer there now).

Not just one of the Tramiels but Jack Tramiel!

It was a "slew". I dont recall the exact number. He had a website that listed at least, IIRC, 5 chapters to be added free.  One being the chapter on the KIM where the Chapter title in the list of to be released chapters was turned into a link to get the PDF. I wish I could recall the other promised chapters but, hey, they were to be free so you can't really complain. The book was a great value without them.
I just wish I could find my copy of that chapter since you can't get it online anymore. I also wish the book was available somplace in ebook format since its a hefty thing to carry around and I have a great ebook reader I'd love to have it on not to mention my phone.

Yes, I'll be interested too. But then it has the same contents of the first book plus new things or is it a very different book?

I've been looking to buy the first, but I don't have $200 for a book...

I've found some chapters in pdf here:http://www.retrocomputacion.com/cgi-bin/foro/YaBB.pl?num=1226970524/23

@thread

Brian Bagnall, the author of the book, has been posting here

If you want to ask him any questions, he might be keeping an eye on that thread, although email may be preferred.

Awesome, that forum post had the Kim additional chapter. The rest are mostly the 'few page' teasers but you can see, its not until Chapter 19 they hit Amiga which only has 5 chapters. Amiga side always felt rushed in the book to me so I am hopeing there are more of the stories from people to flesh that out in the new edition that my fingers are right now itching to get my hands on.

I've heard Dave Haynie speak as well as others involved in Amiga and I know there is more of interest there to people hopeing to keep the Commodore legacy in computer history alive.

For those who haven't read the AW thread that number6 linked to: The version that's out shortly is covering mainly 1974 to 1984, so mainly the 8-bits and up until Tramiel leaves, but in more detail than the original. The Amiga will be covered far more thoroughly in a second volume which I think isn't due until 2012, but will cover 1984 to 1994.

Yes I just read the thread over on the other forum. It is kind of odd that it isnt called "Second Edition: Volume 1" with the expected second edition volume 2 coming in 2012. Nice to see there is additional Amiga material as well as an interview with the designer of the Commodore 65. Though what he writes there seems to imply that the C65 stuff will be in the second volume since that happened suring the Amiga years. So we have to wait until 2012 for that.

Another thing I find odd is that the Variant Press site has the book for sale (signed by the author) without saying that its in essence a preorder.

I really hope buyond hope they make an electronic version available. Would love to carry this book around in my eReader and/or phone.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your comments. I’ve just received copies of the book and the publisher is ready to ship (anyone who pre-ordered from VariantPress.com will have them shipped today). The book’s distributor will receive them shortly and they should be able to get them out to the booksellers within a month.

I'll post a more detailed post about the new book in a day or two.
