Dental Info 4.0 released at Nordental 2010
« on: November 13, 2010, 07:13:56 PM »
Dental Info is a commercial software package used by dentists in Norway to inform patients about dental treatment. The software is also used in schools as part of the education of dental secretaries. At Nordental 2010, the largest dentist convention in Norway,  Ferrule Media released version 4.0.

Dental Info 4.0 is developed by the norwegian amiga-based company Ferrule Media, and is now sold by NDD, the largest supplier of dental equipment in Norway. Screenshots of Dental Info are present at our homepage.

Dental Info is produced using SAM440EPs/ 0S4.1 and Hollywood Designer 3.0 of Airsoft Softwair. It serves as a good example of how the excellent Hollywood Designer 3.0 is capable of making successful programs with high quality.

The amazing features of the Hollywood Designer opens up numerous possibilities for developers as well as regular AmigaOS / MorphOS users.  Be sure to grab a copy Hollywood Designer once released later this year.

Below are some photos from our stand at Nordental 2010. At display we had several machines running Dental Info 4.0 (Windows) as well as two machines running our infochannel Dental Kanal (running on Sam440EPs/OS4.1).

It IS possible to use Amigas in 2010!

I agree with that comment 100%... :)

Though being Scottish Dentists are rare & kinda scary people in this country, as most of us don't have any dental problems here, cos our teeth are mostly made of porcelain or not there at all...

Can you give us an idea of your installed base?  What percentage of Norwegian dentists are using this?

@ Persia

Hi there!

I'm afraid that I can not share our sales numbers. However, the number of customers are increasing. Also we recently started the process of trying to get our software into the universities educating dentists.

The danish version of Dental Info 4.0 will also be finished within a few weeks. Thanks to Hollywood / Designer it is rather easy to remake it into a different language.

I would also like to say thank you to amigausers from all over the world that has offered to help us expand to new contries. We will in time offer Dental Info in several languages, but as it is a niche product we need to take it one step at the time.

Sorry, how about a qualitative measurement.  If I needed a Norwegian dentist, how likely would I be to see your product.

a) Not bloody likely
b)  There's a slight chance
c) Possibly
d) maybe yes, maybe no.
e) likely
f) most likely
g) open your eyes mate.

Maybe the question should be "if you were a Norwegian dentist, how likely...".

My dentist had a lot of technology in his surgery but I didn't inquire as to what it all was or did. I just sat there thinking about the cost of the root canal and crown I was having done

Also, what kind of materials are being displayed? Even an A1200 with Scala can provide a reasonable information display. Do you have maybe a youtube clip to show what it is the system is doing?
Yesterday I helped a surgeon in an operating theatre show a patient some cross-sectional imaging from a very fancy dental scanner (he couldn't touch the mouse because he was scrubbed already).
Materials on that level (such as multiplanar DICOM image viewing) would be impressive, but slideshow type displays wouldn't be, in my opinion.

@ X-ray

The purpose of Dental Info is to give accurate information in a short amount of time. The user may do this by showing a series of illustrations and photos (as well as have access to printable handouts).

The illustrations/photos describes the treatment step by step while the dentist informs the patient using his/her own words. (Everything is controlled by interactive menus.). This way the dentist are in full control of the amount of time needed to inform, as well as being able to adjust the information given to the patient in question.

There are products on the market doing similar using a combination of animation and movies, and while the idea might seem good it does not work in real life. Using animations and movies are too time consuming and the information is too general to be of any real value.

With Dental Info we believe we have managed to solve the problem of how to give good accurate and understandable information in the shortest amount of time. The software also have a lot of other features to make the workday more efficient.

I would say that you would be more and more likely to visit a dentist using Dental Info. Today as an example we got 6 new dentists buying Dental Info. The users are buying a Dental Info-liscense and pays once a year.
