So the Amiga had gamers flailing around like idiots 20 years before the XBox? That's a badge of pride if ever there was one... :|
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

Interesting... I never heard of that game before.

Still... I only see that kind of motion-based control useful for very specific types of games. Not the kind I like the most by the way :P

You mean in your personal opinion about future gaming, one that Nintendo would have ignored at their financial peril via the Wii after PS2 wiped the floor with Gamecube? ;)

I think Kinect is rubbish too, as is PS3 Move and iffy Wii-mote games but the point is what people call cutting edge was yet again pioneered via an A1000 motherboard...just like friendly multi-tasking GUI OS, photo realistic displays and multimedia :)

I AM proud Amiga did a similar job with a 500x slower CPU, who wouldn't be here in all honesty?

I have afull set of actual TGM mags and never forgot that feature really, that and IBM using Amiga to control a wall of huge displays......king of PC design IBM!!!

I totally agree, but more people bought Wii than 360 and PS3 so unfortunately it's getting pushed on us. It's not my cup of tea at all, I'm not going to be able to accurately play Formula 1 2010 making steering wheel gestures lol

Eh, the Wii didn't take off because it had gimmicky controls, it took off because it was cheaper than the (increasingly expensive) competition, was designed to work with ordinary TVs by default instead of providing it as a smushed-down version of the high-def output, and positioned itself as the machine for ordinary people and oldschool retro-gamers (both groups that had been feeling left out with Sony and Microsoft's graphics-driven polygonal arms-race.) All of which are things I'm totally on board with, and all of which Sony and Microsoft completely missed in their transparent efforts to copy-cat the Wii's success.

Well, that's true enough, it just seems to me that I'd rather point out the worthwhile things the Amiga pioneered ;)

I recall that thing for Amiga. Used a camera with, IIRC, you in front of a bluescreen then put the graphics around you. You moved your arm and your image of course, showed that movement and the game registered when you hit a graphic. Pretty neat for its time but more a gimick. I have no idea how well it sold.

I can remember playing Encounter on the C64 with my arms flailing around all over the place and that was just using a joystick... :)

For some strange reason that game made everyone playing it duck & dodge like a hyperactive loony (wonder if that's where the WII designers got their idea from... )

It's funny how cyclic technology can be. Similarly, the Museum of Science has/had a Pong-like game exhibit in which the ball bounced off the digitized silhouettes of the players. I'm fairly certain that it's Amiga-driven.

I wonder what other awkward 80s/90s gaming devices will be making a comeback soon? :)
How about VR goggles?

(This one is also Amiga-driven!)

There was a local guy around here trying to sell me an Amiga-powered VR machine, wanted too much for it though, I thought.

It's the made-for-porn, open-front denim dress that really sets the VR picture on fire.

I actually find Kinect quite interesting/impressive technology. Not that Im in a rush to go out and buy it, but it will make it's way into my living room sooner or later.
Sorry guys, I just cant buy into your bleak view of things just because it's made by Microsoft and/or isnt something that is going to be practical all the time. It's a far cry from the product in the topic, eye motion, or even the Wii's somewhat limited motion sensors and I look forward to seeing what's done with it.

Ah, that aside though, still very cool to see an eye toy style thing for the amiga so long ago :)

Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.
