3000 system on Ebay
« on: November 09, 2010, 03:47:57 PM »
Hey all, last couple of days I've been thinking about Amiga and out of curiosity did an Ebay search.  The person selling this system says it's their last attempt at selling it, otherwise it's going to charity.  Just thought I'd pass it along to the people that care the most.

Funny, "trying" to sell it with a reserve...

I can see not selling it for a pittance, but donating it to charity would be the equivalent of throwing it in the trash.

The asking price isn't ridiculous, either,
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug
Alienware M14x i7 laptop running AmigaForever

I wonder what kind of charity would take an Amiga computer? Even if he were to "donate" it somewhere, at least it stands a chance of finding a good new home. That's better than binning it at least.

His mindset though is strange. Going to dump it to some "charity", but has a reserve. The guy could at least give it to a 'poor' fan who doesn't already have a nice Amiga system, that could pay for shipping at least.  :)

If it doesn't make his reserve or BIN price, I bet he'll just offer to the next highest bidder, like he said he might do.

The price sounds reasonable to me, too. Looks clean, two external drives, 1084S with a broken power button that might be easily fixed? Don't want to throw down $300 on a toy at the moment, though.

If his reserve is not met, he was going to stuff the system and monitor into one of those outdoor Salvation Army donation boxes along with a few pairs of used socks.

I've seen Commodore, Atari, Amiga, and other old computer stuff at Goodwills, Missions, and various other charity thrift shops within the past several years.  A couple of years back a local place had an Apple IIgs.

The Badwill's around us (WI and IL) no longer accept computers. Not sure about Salavating Amy's anymore. Last couple of times I've been to one, I was pretty much grossed out. The cool, classic and vintage stuff you used to see in these places during the 80's and 90's are all dried up around here. I'll visit the occasional Badwill now and again, but all I see anymore is nothing but crap. St. Vinnie's seems to be the last of the decent thrift stores for vintage electronics, but even then it's a crap shoot.

See if you know someone in the US who will work as a proxy for you.  They'd really have to trust you, since once they bid on an item it's a set-in-stone contract.
