Adapter to use A2000 keyboard on a 1200?
« on: November 07, 2010, 02:29:51 AM »
Does this exist ?

Basically, I really like the A2000 keyboard and Id love to be able to sit with the keyboard in my lap, instead of being hunched over the 1200.

Hi,

Only way you are going to do this is buy an adapter from Amigakit, they have one for the A1200 with a ps2 connector, in order to have the A2000 keyboard work is to buy an ps2 to ibm keyboard adapter. So actually you will need two adapters,

1. A1200 to ps2 keyboard.
2. ps2 adapter to ibm type keyboard. (same as the large connector on the A2000 keyboard)

Thanks !

It looks like their adapters are for a towered model. I'll keep my eyes open though.

Easy route is to get a subway and use a USB keyboard.

I use my old A1500 keyboard which is the same keyboard as the A2000 on my main A1200 set up, Nothing more than 4 Wires and a 5 pin Din connector to make it work, the only thing it lacks is the three finger salute but that was easily solved by adding a reset button on the Amiga... :)

Hi,

@Franko,

Last time I tried soldering wires on my Amiga, I was giving the 5 finger salute, as the soldering iron ran across my finger tips. With a lot of luck the only damage done was my burnt fingers, it could have been worse I could have damaged my miggy (now that would have been a ten finger salute with a lot of cuss words).

Hi,

@kolla,

I wouldn't advise that subway for the Amiga 1200 to anyone, bought one from Amigakit, installed it and it smoked like a big dog. Then I looked at my connections and saw that I missed an end pin on the A1200 and smoked the ribbon cable that connects to the clockport, Ya know this stuff never happended when I was younger, the old eyes just can't see that good any more. Actually I did not like the instructions that came with it. Finding pin #1 was quite difficult, and the instructions where vague, (I know who reads instructions, thats for wimps).

By the way anyone know where I can get a copy of OS 4.0, I now have my Amiga 1200 running with a 240 mhz ppc card and from all the stuff I could find on the OS 4.? is that OS 4.0 is the only one that works on the classic Amiga, so, anyone know where I could buy it, or does OS 4.1 work on the classic also, this I know where to buy (I hope, Amigakit?)

I used to shop at software hut, but they haven't answered any of my emails, anyone know if they still exist?

I know, I am acting like Karlos, and asking a lot of silly questions (oops, sorry Karlos, I forgot you only give silly answers)

4.0 should work on powerPC classics, but no idea how usable or snappy it is.

They are working on 4.1 for classics but a lot of people have doubts if it'll be usable in reality

Sounds to me that you didn't really read the instructions :rtfm:

Both the keyboard adapters i own can use a standard amiga keyboard with automatic recognition. They are:

- the Ateo adapter:
http://www.bboah.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=61&id=2587&artlang=en

- the Elbox PC-Key 1200:
http://www.bboah.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=61&id=2600&artlang=en

Grab one of those and you can use A2000/A3000/A4000 keyboards flawlessly, including Ctrl-A-A reset.

I got the impression that the original question was how to connect an external keyboard to an A1200 as an addition to the original keyboard, not as a replacement. But I cold be wrong.
