Most recent 68k/os3.x MAME ?
« on: November 05, 2010, 02:36:39 PM »
I guess the topic says it all. Im just wondering what the latest version of Mame for os3.x is ? Most recent version I have is v0.60, which works nicely and actually supports a good chunk of games I like (sf2 series and Mk series for example), but the rom sets used arent the current versions that are easy to find online. Does anyone know if there's a more recent version please ?
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

You don't want a more recent version. The emphasis on MAME is accuracy, not speed, so as it evolves it gets more and more accurate (and hence slower and slower).
The latest versions of MAME wouldn't even run Pac-Man on a 68K Amiga, I'm afraid!

Im using Amithlon on a core2duo, so speed isnt a concern. I dont really expect to be playing daytona usa, etc., but the emulated 68k cpu is far beyond any os4.x hardware running native ppc code, so cps2, neogeo, etc. are fine (even with my old athlon64 amithlon machine I could play the above at full speed, so with a machine twice or more the speed I can deal with the fact that mame gets progressively slower).

There actually is a PPC Mame for classics with ppc cards, although if Im not mistaken it's even older than the most recent680x0 versions (ppc I think is at 0.37bX whereas 68k is at least 0.60(hopeing more recent, but Ive not found a more recent version)).

As for the original question,.... so no-one knows of a more recent version than 0.60 for 680x0? I'll port a more recent version if need be, but I was hoping someone already had ?

This 0.60 version for 68k was a recompilation from SixK of my MorphOS MAME port (he did it mainly for amithlon).

Porting the current MorphOS version to 68k would be quite easy, and it would include the builtin MUI GUI (similar to the old MAME PowerUp,  but a bit more modern.

Latest public version of MAME MorphOS is 0.121, but i also have ported 0.138 anyway.
