The Amiga Is A Toy - By Local Government Official...
« on: November 02, 2010, 02:07:25 PM »
Just in the past hour I've had a visit from my Local Governments Dept Council Tax  Inspector. The snidey little toad was here to see if some building work I have done, would put my house into a higher bracket for the payments of my Council Tax.

Anyway, while he was in my home he commented on the two A1200's that I have in bit's just now spread all over my kitchen worktops and floor. His comments were, 'I haven't seen one of those toys in years, my kids used to have one but grew out of them when they went to high school' I pointed out to him that the Amiga was 'not a toy' and began to point out the merits of the Amiga computer.

He then had the cheek to say 'but yes, in this day and age no-one would seriously use one of those let alone call it a computer', at this point I promptly told him to shut his ruddy cakehole do his inspection job and bugger off... :madashell:

Talk about being peed off, reckon the little jobby wil now put me in the higher Council Tax bracket for telling him where to go... :furious:

(hope his poxy laptop he had with him breaks down and he loses all his data... :))

Ha ha ha, how utterly ridiculous! Some people really have no clue, do they? How is a computer not a computer just because it's old? I suppose the Eniac, the first electronic Turing complete computer, isn't a computer then, either  And, a toy? Some people use peecees as toys :)

This really makes me :roflmao:

On the other hand, it could just be meant to be insulting, which isn't so funny :(

I suspect he bought one for his kids as a games machine hence the association as a 'toy'.

For the vast majority of the public this is exactly how Amiga was seen.  The marketing Commodore did at the time didn't exactly push it as a serious computer either!

Not sure what that means, but I offer better-
Let's see, you are required to let in a person you pay with your taxes, who then proceeds to insult you and raise your taxes more. Idea! We have many extra, so how about we export a shipload of 'Tea Party' activists to Scotland? They will follow them around with bullhorns ranting about the taxes, gov'mnt overstepping, and hitler!

"The Amiga Is A Toy."
This is a pretty good guage of what the average (non amigan) person thinks of the Amiga in 2010.

Most hobbies involve some sort of "toy".

Given that there's universal health care, they'd probably be terrified of the thought of being shipped off to the communist gulag of Scotland and avoid going to the doctor at all cost in case they'd be subjected to the death panels.

I picture them trying to survive through winter in the Scottish highlands armed to the teeth, shooting at any government official trying to get to them.

Absolutely Splendid idea. Maybe once they experience taxation outside the US they'll "shut their buggerin cak holes".

@ Franko

I would have gone along with him and kindly asked him if he still had those old Amiga "toys' lying around as I would be glad to save those old toys from the dump:afro:

you'd be surprised what some people throw away....about 6 years ago a buddy of mine found a mint A4000T with PPC card in mint condition at a building he was working at just laying there pretty next to the garbage bin:insane:

also, I guess telling the guy AmigaOS4.x, MOS, and AROS are modern Amiga OS's would have just gone over his head
