I Think I'm Hooked On The Internet...
« on: October 18, 2010, 12:37:25 AM »
Less than ten minutes ago I was in the middle of posting a comment on one of my blogs, when suddenly I got a message saying my connection was offline and a bright orange LED lit up on my router. :(

I couldn't get Safari to do nothing at all and had to reset the computer but still nothing... I started to panic and get a wee bit jittery as a final option I switched off the router waited a minute and switched it back on again... :nervous:

Phew... I was back online again, It's only now and with the experience of suddenly having no internet connection, do I realize just how addicted I've become to the net...

Never thought I'd say this, but the internet, PC & Macs aint such bad things after all...:)

(just off to eat some humble pie now, especially after some of the things I've said in the past about the above subjects... :o )

WELCOME TO THE MACHINE.

Time to start looking for a backup connection.  I use my 3G cellphone as one.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug

You should have a backup plan if the net goes offline. I loaded up my phone with videos and music. Or keep a DVD you plan to watch handy.
Also be prompt with you important emails, banking etc. so if you go offline you'll be good for a day or two.

There are withdrawal symptoms, but I think it is just mental, people coped fine before the internet.

It's only as most here will know by now, I've only just ventured into the the land of the interweb-net-thingy in the past few months. After years of family & friends constantly telling me 'how can you live without'.

Those few moment's when I thought it was all over made me realize that, hey it's actually not so bad after all. I suppose that once the novelty wears off I may get back to dedicating some more time to my beloved Amiga which has been getting a bit neglected recently (it's only on now for about 8 hours a day...)

But as Tone007 says, Welcome to the machine, and maybe the machine aint so bad after all... :)

(PS: you'll never convince me to get a mobile phone though... :) )

Franko,

HAve you tried getting your Amiga online? If so, what did you think of the experience?

After helping out MrMoonlight recently to set up his new Amiga, he now has his A1200 on the internet and is very happy with it. So I'm just waiting for AmigaKit to get some of those PCMCIA net cards back in stock and hopefully get one of my Amigas (or all of them) online. :)

That little scare made me realize that now I've entered the internet age, I need to have access to all my banking/financing accounts as I've recently changed them all to being online, so if something goes wrong with this iMac I'll at least be able to use my Amiga to stay online... :)
