WHDLoad odd problem?
« on: October 16, 2010, 11:45:30 PM »
Well, this is weird. Maybe it's weird because I don't get it..

My setup: A1200 /030/Idivision AGA OS3.1, 4GB CF-drive (2 equally sized partitions)

My problem:

When I run some games or demos off my dh1: partition, WHDLoad stalls and throw some errors, but if I copy same games  or demos to dh0: partition, it works fine. Why is it so?

For example Alien Breed game goes out before main menu appears with WHDLoad error; Exception "Address Error" ($B00C) ar $17F95BA2 (ExpMem $21BA2) occured.

Or second example Nexus 7 by Andromeda Demo stalls before begins with error; The data/disk-files are damaged or it is an unsupported version

But if I copy these files to dh0: they work fine! Strange.

So, can anyone tell me what's the problem?

Sounds like 'Max Transfer' problem it should be 0x1FE00

Try that in HDToolbox and see if it helps :)

That is weird, I can run WHDLoad games from any one of the 30 different partitions on my two HDs and never have any problems like that, do you have problems with any other software or data stored on DH1: or is it just with WHDLoad stuff...

(reckon it may be your HD, think fitzsteve's advice may be right...)

Actually it's a lot safer that way, everything is categorized and should something go wrong with a partition you don't lose everything stored on your HD and it's easily backed up from DVD... :)

More evidence is that its large files that he is loading that are crashing, again pointing to Max Transfer issue.

I see he's using one of those 4GB compact flash drives, they are nothing but problematic to say the least, to get up and running correctly if you don't set the Max Transfer right.

I've put CF hard drives in a couple machines and never had any issues with WHDLoad, and never had to mess with any MaxTransfer settings.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug
Alienware M14x i7 laptop running AmigaForever

It depends what HD Tools you use, some set it correct like the one from OS3.9

Its the WB3.x HDToolbox that likes to set it wrong for CF cards.

Or maybe you just play small 1 disk games that are not loading large files?

Try Alien Breed 3D 2 :hat:
