Developing video card drivers?
« on: October 13, 2010, 11:47:48 PM »
Is there any available SDK for writing video card drivers?

Cybergraphx, P96, anything without reverse engineering or are we 68k users stuck with what we have?

Thanks

Try contacting the original developers and asking politely. (Seriously.)

Forget about Picasso96 SDK, I have already asked to the authors. It is now the hostage of OS4 (Hyperion), and they despice any mention of Amiga 68k.

Try with CGX authors, hopefully they are a bit more open minded, and are willing to help.

Is there still an official page for Cybergraphix?  I've looked and can't find it yet, but maybe I'm searching wrong.  My Google-Fu is normally very strong.

We desperately need some open source alternatives, maybe I'll look into porting the Aros version instead of writing drivers.

the idea of open gfx system has even been a subject of a poll here yet none has picked up the glove. myself as mediator user, im very interested in an alternative to the limited voodoo3 and broken and outdated w3d and have been looking on aros in respect of its gallium implementation. yet it seems we need the hidd drivers first. someone is porting aros back to 68k and writing apparently a simple hidd driver for aga, so not everything is lost. maybe later when aros already works aros hidd drivers can be portd over to openpci.

I'm on the Aros list and I've been paying attention to him too.

Once I get at least one expanded Amiga up to speed I hope to help on some of that as well.

Looking at the state of Amiga OpenPCI, I'm not sure that there is much to offer that Aros doesn't already have.  It might be better just to start using Aros implementations of these type of things directly.

well, im too young to aros, so i never heard how aros implements that sort of stuff. 4 what i know openpci is the only one open solution available across amigoid systems let alone 68k. but i have never seen the api, nor know i to what standard it should compare. just yesterday i thought about mailing benjamin about the docs but on a second thought i it would be just wasting his time.

It has HW drivers for all the PCI solutions. If you were to port AROS solution for 68k would it have the same?

Really? Maybe they granted Hyperion an exclusive license. :-/ Picasso96 card and chip drivers are really very simple designs, but not being able to share documentation certainly puts a damper on things.

Can anyone confirm that the driver SDK, not just the application SDK is on that CD?
