GVP-M Typhoon or Apollo 1230 MK3
« on: October 08, 2010, 12:59:41 PM »
I just ordered a refurbished 1200 from Amigakit and want to get a cheaply priced accelerator (My budget is about $250).  My two choices are the GVP-M Tyhoon from Softhut or the Apollo 1230 from Amigakit.  Both are 68030 40Mhz boards.  The GVP-M has the co-processor already fitted, which is an optional extra for the Apollo card.  I have however read some forums about problems getting the GVP-M fitting in the trapdoor slot.  I have no intention of towerizing the 1200 and want to keep it in it's original case.  Are there any major differences that would make this an easy choice - both are similarly priced.

All I am really going to do for the most part will be to run WHDload games and install Classic WB.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated especially if someone here has experience with either card :)

Thanks!

I just bought the typhoon card from software hut.  Unfortunately I have not been able to find a way to fit this without the memory hanging out of the bottom of the case pushing against my desk when I set it down.  Has anyone who owns this card got any advice for how I can modify my case to allow this to fit.  It's almost as if this was made for a different type of case.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated for this novice!

I figured this out.  If anyone else has this problem you need to open the 1200 and install from the inside under one of the runners in the trapdoor.  Not the best solution but I played around with it for a bit until it was secure and it is working great now.
