A1200 and multiple booting hard drives

Can i install like os3.9 to first hard drive/partition and wb3.1+scalos to another, so would it be selectable from the early startup menu, from wich i want to boot?

Yes. You can create as many bootable partitions as you like. The one that actualy boots is choosen from the boot priority: the partition with the highest priority in the system is used. You can overide this choice in the early startup menu.

But the choice is not permanent. You have to choose again every reset. Note that OS3.9 resets two times, so you have to choose the OS3.9 partition twice.

And a reset does not remove the OS3.9 rom update from memory, so if you choose to boot from the 3.1 partition you might still run with scsi.device V44, exec V44 etc., everything that is reset-proof.

Is it possible to put Linux as a second partition and boot whenever wanted?  And I'm talking an A1200 with or without a 030 40-50mhz board.

You can give OS3.9 partition the highest priority so that if you don't choose anything it will load OS3.9. If you want to boot from another partition with a lower boot priority then you need to 'disable' that OS3.9 partition in the early startup menu.  About those things that stay in the memory after a reboot, it may be better to switch off your computer if you want to boot up Linux (for example) after you runned OS 3.9 ...

I never heard about running linux directly from boot : I launch linux from the amigaos side without problems (Linuxppc1999 on A1200PPC+BVisionPPC)

There is no custom boot code for Linux. You always have to create a small AmigaOS partition which calls Bootstrap to start Linux.

However, NetBSD has custom boot code that can be installed in the boot block of your NetBSD partition so it is started at once.

That is the same set-up i have on my system.

I have at least 5 partitions and three are boot-able (just check the box in HDtoolbox)
Also remember to allocate a decent amount of cache to partition ( default 30!)

Very handy if you need to have a lean system running! And a quick reset to boot into something full of eye-candy to impress first footers. :-D
