mount and dismount a PGA FPU

 I have bought (from a nice user of this forum) a 68882 PGA for my Blizzard 1230 mk IV.

The board has (as normal) a socket for the chip. Considering that I am not very good in electronics and, in general, with manual activities, would you suggest searching for a more experinced person to mount the chip in the socket? Is it a difficult operation?

Also, I may decide, possibly, to dismount the FPU in the future. Is it difficult to do it?

I've done it with a flathead screwdriver and some gentle, even prying around the chip.  There's probably a proper PGA extractor tool around somewhere, though.

It really isn't very hard, though.

get the proper tool to remove the old chip, most likely less then 12 bucks.
Super easy, insert the tool, squeeze the handle.

You should follow good grounding practices

Do not worry, i am not good at manual activities either and however i can mount or dismount a PGA cpu with ease. Juste use a small screwdriver to remove it by pulling gently on all sides. To mount it, just ensure all pins are straight with the pinholes and push firmly.
Can't be easier :-)

Mounting the chip is fairly simple.  No need of a flathead screwdriver or an extraction tool, in that case.

1.  Make sure you are statically earthed
2.  Remove the card from your A1200 and place it on a flat firm insulated surface. (EG: Upsidedown mouse mat on a level table)
3.  Note the proper orentation of the FPU, check all the pins are straight (look it up in the Amiga Hardware DB if not sure http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/blizzard1230mk4)
4.  Place the FPU carefully over the socket in the correct orentation (Remember, get it right, dont bend any pins)
5.  Provide level, equal, firm & constant pressure to seat the chip into the socket.  (You will feel a distinct drop as it locks into place.

As far as taking it out again.. Why??  It's found a home and should live there forever now.
