So anything that can emulate an Amiga now in theory is actually an Amiga?

If you go by that rule then an Amiga is

An Atari ST
A Mac
A PC
A C64
A Sinclair Spectrum
A classic Gameboy
An Atari 400/800/XL/XE
An Atari VCS 2600
A Sega Master System

and the list goes on.........

And Commodore USA's stuff certainly isn't Amiga, it's still cheap PCs with a 20 cents sticker

Since when can any of those emulate a full Amiga?

I'd love to see an amiga emulator for the 64.

I was kinda joking about the emulation part since someone else brought it up.

We are 25 years into this, Amiga is anything that can run the AmigaOS, or derivatives.

Classic HW owners should feel lucky to still have working hardware, but try not to look down your nose on the rest of us.

I gave up my working HW to fellow amigans who really wanted classic hardware, as it is more the software and community I like. (Even though the community is a bit snarky lately.)
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,

So a peecee running WinUae or Aros is an Amiga? A Mac running AOS4 is an Amiga? Yeah, right...

Why do people feel it's necessary to call things which aren't Amigas, Amigas? It's completely baffling...

The confusion started when people started to call "AmigaOne"s as an "Amiga."  The line blurred from there, IMO.  Now that C=USA has the Amiga brand name, perhaps we can see  a true "Amiga" again.

Amiga to me is the os, the specs, the community and retro games etc.

Amiga to you is a bunch of decaying poorly designed computer models (caps on wrong ways, no memory protection, etc. etc.) built and sold by a poor excuse of a company.

your average "peecee" is better designed, better built and better supported than any "real" amiga ever was.

Here is part of the difference to me at least. pc systems to me haven't been "IBM" for probably 20 years or so. They aren't MS machines either, or even Linux machines. They are simply x86 computers capable of accepting any number of operating systems, built by a number of companies with one of several different companies cpu's etc.

Aros imho is a completely viable operating system still in development. And as it is directly based on Amiga OS, what else would you call it other than AmigaOS for the x86 platform without the copyright entanglements. Amiga Inc. Hyperion etc. etc. are unwilling or unable to port "true" amigaos to hardware that 99% of humans use so the AROS team did. Disrespecting their accomplishments when the "real" power that be have done crap for us is stupid. I think practically the same thing is true of the UAE team as well.

All hardware will eventually die and be replaced by newer hardware. But with Aros and UAE there is no reason we can't still be running Amiga-like apps even when the 64 core 128bit cpu's are out with 32 gigabytes of ram.

Amiga used to be about effieciency and low price. That today is not sam, or natami or even minimig, it is PC

@KThunder

One minute your saying that classic hardware owners are looking down their nose at you, the next your slagging off the Amiga, aint  you being a wee bit childish lowering yourself to the 'peecees are better... blah, blah, blah...' malarky... :)

C'mon mate, each to their own, I don't look down my nose (and it's a pretty big nose at that) at anyone who run's an amiga that I don't consider a classic. As long as folk are still keeping the Amiga alive in whatever way they can, then surely thats to the benefit of all in the big happy family of the Amiga community, peace man, chill dude, :afro:

C'mon I'll buy you a pint or two and we can then talk about it sensibly like drunken adults... :drink:

I like the original hardware, it was cool, it could hook up to my tv for big screen gaming, it had cool sound, it had a 68k cpu, etc. but it did have problems. We could list them all but I think we all know what they are. If I didn't think they would at some point die I would still have classic hardware myself (I hate it when cool tech dies)

My "average pc" statement was a simple statement of fact. Comodore cut corners, made mistakes, loused up support etc. etc. It was not intended as looking down. I have owned several amiga's and loved each of them. Calling a pc a "peecee" is looking down.

I don't run a computer just to run a computer, to marvel at how fast it boots, or how many colors it can put on screen for it's age. I run computers to play games, or surf the net or for programming. Classic amigas can do some of that stuff, but my "software" amiga can do all that and much more.

"I can do more with my Athlon 64"

umm.. sorry that last bit was over the top.
