Yam (2.6) Please Help
« on: September 19, 2010, 01:29:27 PM »
Hi
Can anybody help me out as I`m having trouble to set up my E-mails.
I thing I have set the ping up right but I`m still having trouble when it comes to setting the e-mail up as my knowledge on the Amiga is a bit slow as I have been trying to set this up for months.
I can use the Internet and is fine and I can receive e-mails but can not send them.
When I send I keep getting this error:- Couldn`t connect to host`smtp.virginmedia.com`.
The mail server is currently down or doesn`t supprt the smtp protocols. I have made sure my setting are right in yam and I believe it is right.

I believe there is something wrong with my smpt but how do I change the smpt?

Do they require an SMTP login? Or a secure connection to send email?

or the requirement to use "username@address" on configuration entries that merely use the term "username"? (that one gets more than a few people)

Funny, In my case YAM was the only program that worked for me..... though you could try different versions as well, on my sys. v. 2.4 works best.

I'd also check to see if you need secure authentication (as MobbyG mentioned) , I have heard that more and more ISP's do.... Mine, Earthlink, has required authentication for years....

Be patient, I found it tricky to set up E_Mail on my miggy, but at least there's lots of ppl. here to help :afro:

I guess you configured it like this:

Sending mail (SMTP):

SMTP server name: smtp.virginmedia.com
SMTP SSL: Enabled
SMTP port: 465
SMTP authentication: Enabled (or 'Password' on Macs)
SMTP username: Full e-mail address, e.g., richard.branson@virginmedia.com

And you might wanna set Domain as: virginmedia.com
You should also check if SMTP AUTH needs to be on or off.
