The new site owners have kept Amiga.org in the same spirit it always was, thats what matters.

fwiw, I use this site on my a1200/IBrowse all the time, aside from a vertically laid out menu, it's completely useable.

I completely agree!

...useable? I suppose.

Is it attractive, intuitive, a good use of screen real estate, a good reflection of the Amiga spirit?  NO (iBrowse, Aweb).

If you have not tried Karlos' proxy, give it a go. He did an excellent job.  The site looks mostly the way it did before the change to the new server.  And, everything is functional (right Karlos? :)).

Once upon a time one could buy cups and shirts with amiga.org logo on them, through caffepress or something, and thereby support this site and get some nice merchandice while doing so. I remember I had two large amiga.org mugs and two long sleeved shirts. Sadly, at the time there was only white T-shirts - I hate white T-shirts (except when worn by pretty babes with... heh... mugs) - so if you would consider doing something similar today, I'd suggest some site that has coloured shirts :)

Fantastic idea - I'd buy a mug or three!

No Halo Reach, Teeth Whitening or Get Rich working from home Ads to be found.

Yeah, and what about limiting self-advertising as well ?

I'd rather see some small "Halo Reach" ads than all these repeated "Aladdin special offer for a 15 years old renderer" spam items...

@warpdesign

Your wish is our command, the golden lamp has been rubbed. The quintessential Quantum computer has been switched on and an inter-dimensional twist in the very essence of time has been changed. A rip in the very fabric of reality has happend and your account has been changed so you never see Aladdin 4D press releases again.

You're Welcome

Uhhh, I don't mind Amiga advertizing.  Just him, right?

If it's not there, it would be great if there were a BOLD link to "Classic Amiga Version" on the front page.

Why not have amiga.org 302 redirect certain user-agents to the proxy? (IBrowse, Amiga-AWeb, AmigaVoyager)

Could be interesting. For a while I was 302'ing all non-amiga browsers back to the main site. Imagine the potential redirect loops :D

I stopped when we first got that dodgy iframe as it was trivially easy to filter via the proxy ;)

Ideally, the proxy should live on a subdomain of this site.

However, "AmigaOS" still tends to appear in the user agent string ;)

Yes, please do that - send everything with "AmigaOS" and "Mozilla" in it to the proxy, that will work out just GREAT! :roflmao:

I meant that's how you can generally tell an amigaos browser spoofing something else. I wasn't suggesting the main site should redirect users to the proxy. If people want to use it, they can just use it.

Which reminds me, time to start bouncing out the non amiga browsers. I just checked the stats and, somewhat inevitably, most of the visitors were using IE/Windows.

I should just time them out, wasting my bandwidth like that ;)

It's pretty lame, but:
if (!preg_match('@amiga|morphos|aros|linux@i'$_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'])) {

header('Location: http://amiga.org/' $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);
  die();
}
