Amiga.org New Ownership - Almost One Year Has Past
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:24:03 AM »
We hope you have being enjoying Amiga.org in 2010. It is still here for you, the fans that have used it since 1994. We have worked hard to make it a great choice in the sea of Amiga, AROS & MorphOS fan sites. It has not changed much and that's on purpose. No Halo Reach, Teeth Whitening or Get Rich working from home Ads to be found. The founder of DiscreetFX hates crap like that and it makes many sites on the internet buggy, slow and garbage. Why do they sell their soul for a song?

We also avoid very annoying things like Vibrant Ads, large irrelevant graphic ads or any type of graphic ads for that matter. We may from time to time use small Google text Ads that are relevant to the content of the site. Your free to use Ad blockers to block those if they are of no interest to you. As we fast approach 2011 we would love to have your feedback on how we are doing. We are Amiga, MorphOS & AROS fans just like you and want you to enjoy the site. We are not alone and other great sites exist too. This is a good thing and diversity and choice will make our favorite hobbies and platforms grow and expand.

If you love what you see don't forget to feed the kitty. If you have suggestions for improvement we would love to hear them. Thanx again for your time and now back to you're regularly scheduled Amiga.org

Even though I've only been on the net for a few months, I can safely say that Amiga.org is the best site I've had the privilege to use.  :biglaugh:

The one thing that puzzles me is, why do so many folk who use the sight on a regular basis not pay for a membership, I had only been on the sight for a few days and realized that it was well worth the small fee to become a full member. :)

C'mon folks cough up and help to make sure this fantastic site continues, it's money well spent. :D

You are doing a great job!  Our community needs a home for all things classic and related.  Thank you for NOT trying to re-invent everything or further modernizing the site.  I think most ppl accept that Amiga will never again lead the cutting edge of web standards and protocol (did it ever?).

@ Karlos

Thank you for trying to accommodate Amiga browsers.  It is sort of rediculous that a site  solely about Amiga computers and technology was "modernized" (before the change in ownership) beyond Amiga browser capability.  Perhaps the new CSS code is rocking someone's world now, I don't see what the fuss was about.  The purpose of the site is the same as is the content.  Yes, I read all the compelling reasons that were supposed to make the change manditory, the driving software was obsolete and unavailable.  There were supposed to be only a handfull of us logging in with classic Amigas.  I just don't buy it all.

Thanks for a great job this past year.  Sorry for the rant.

Well it was an interesting experiment to say the least :o)

However, the proof is in the pudding, as they say. My server stats show that it really is a small minority that are using the proxy.

Thanks for having us:) The site is great as it is, no need to make any radical changes.

In truth, I haven't had a chance to use your server more than once yet.  My higher spec Amiga suffered HD failures last year and I'm only now close to having time to resolve it.

Perhaps you're right about the small minority.  OTOH, when the decision was made, I almost didn't come back.  I wonder if others felt the same.

Also, If I had not happened to see your post, I would not have known you made a way for iBrowse to still function.  I have not noticed any other indication that Amiga browsers are accommodated (I have often missed individual trees, overwhelmed by the forest).  If it's not there, it would be great if there were a BOLD link to "Classic Amiga Version" on the front page.  Maybe your proxy usage would increase. ;)

There, that's my suggestion for an improvement to the site!

Tenacious has a point. Those that were not here at the time Karlos announced his proxy may be completely unaware of its existence.

The new site owners have kept Amiga.org in the same spirit it always was, thats what matters.

fwiw, I use this site on my a1200/IBrowse all the time, aside from a vertically laid out menu, it's completely useable.
