Classic games on Sam EP
« on: September 10, 2010, 01:17:24 PM »
Sorry if this has been asked before - I have tried searching but cannot find any info.  I am considering at some point in the near future purchasing one of Sam Ep / Flex boards.  I don't think I could afford the x1000 and was wondering if the Sam can still run e-uae at a decent speed well enough for classic software and classic games?  I have seen many demos of OS4 on youtube but couldnt find any running uae.

I am nut sure.  But given the relative low specs on the sam I would imagine it would be fine for A500 games, but might struggle with A1200 games at full speed.

The specs arent much off an old crap PC I had, and that worked fine for most games, other than stuff like Breathless and those.

the new SAM460 might have enough power for AGA games too but the main problem is not the lack of power compared to x86 but the fact that older SAM do not have Lvl 2 cache (SAM460 has a (albeit small) Lvl 2 cache) and that e-uae does not have a JIT (winuae does, thats why even low spec x86 could run any game including the most demanding one at full speed).
