...is there a power switch on the back of the PSU?

Any power to the drives when you try turning it on?

Yeah power switch is on. im getting power just no post/screen it just keeps saying no signal on my monitor? i hope to god the board is not dead. i build pc's as a hobby and have been doing this for 13 years and usually when this happens with a motherboard it is faulty im just praying this is not the case :( im getting power to the drives, ive ejected the cd drive etc and it works fine im just stumped?

I have 0 (ZERO) experience with SAM, but some PC motherboards used to ship with the clear CMOS jumper set and you have to change this jumper before using it. You really need a manual, maybe Acube has one online for download?

no CMOS Jumper on the board but i did take out the battery and tryed it that way but still no luck.

its a brand new case and a brand new psu?

Even brand new stuff can actually be broken. I have had a broken brand new PSU myself once. Do you have a different one you can try? You haven't confused/mixed up the reset/power switch wires from the case? Or the pins you connect them to? Sam440 ep, that's the one with on-board GFX, right? Otherwise a GFX card present can be necessary on some motherboards I have come across in the past. Memory module is correctly inserted? Try removing it, and insert it again, firmly, it should click into place. Does the Sam require some ATA unit present? Sounds strange perhaps, but I'm just dropping suggestions here...

BTW, you are sure the thing actually works, and isn't broken?

The moment you hook a good PSU up to the ATX jack on the mobo the green LED on the SAM mobo should light up as long as there is AC power to the PSU (PSU on or off).

Can't miss it, try that first.

Congratulations! :)

What was wrong?

I think I've read that sams draw so little power that some modern PSUs won't send any current.

That may explain why the drives worked as they would draw the expected current from the PSU.

Complete guess though.

Come to think of it, it's a very good "guess". I'd even say you hit the nail on its head! :) You are absolutely right, this is the case with "modern" PSU's. Or let's rather call them "todays *higher wattage* PSU's" instead, because AFAIK, modern *low watt* PSU's doesn't "suffer" from this "problem"...

:)

Good thing it works now! :)

Believe it or not I think it was because I did not have the USB keyboard and mouse connected when I was trying to boot however I'm trying to install aos4.1 on to the hard drive but it hangs I'm guessing this is because it is a 640 gb hd where as I think the Sam only supports upto 500 gb or am I wrong?

Go to the ACube web site and download the manual for the SAMep I have one at home but I'm at work...

You need to follow the instructions and make sure you have the HD and CDrom in the right SATA ports...

Start there

oh I see there was another page to this ordeal and you've got it running but now your drive is too big?

Enter the early boot up menu etc and set your boot device as the CDRom and see if you can just get a screen up etc... the hanging could be due to the internet initialising but if you don't have it on the harddrive already I'm not sure that would be a problem if not setup to start with...

I have the manual. So a hard drive bigger than 500 gb will work?

I think I experienced this when I swapped out my 667 for the new 800 Flex... it wouldn't go in the nice snap in Thermaltake Tower case so ended up putting the Flex in the old A1 Tower... never got around to putting the 667 back in the nice new tower though it lives in an antistatic bag

I do recall something like that but for completion sake wouldn't you like to see it boot all the way into the workbench even if it's cdrom based?

and besides, you need to do this to pre your HD anyway etc

I currently use a 750 watt Power PC and Cooling PSU and 1 TB HD on my SAM with zero issues, and have used many different HW configs with the SAM with 0 issues.  Everything from a 100w PSU to a 1000w Ultra PSU, 80 GB to a 2 TB HD.

Only issues I ever had with it were the SATA port issue that Slayer suggested above.  Make sure you have all the drives on the right ports as per the SAM manual and it is set to boot off the CD.
