Just bought an Blizzard 1260
« on: August 23, 2010, 10:45:48 AM »
I finally bought a Blizzard 1260 card, and I'm just wordering what to do next.
I dont have 1260 card yet, but I still have my 1230 that I will send to UK today.  My system wont boot to WB without the extra ram brought by the 1230. Should I copy the 060/040 libraries to LIBS: drawer before plugging the 1260 in? Is that all I need to do in order to make the Bliz 1260 to work?
A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.
And a couple of A600\'s :).

Mine came already installed in my A1200, so I don't know the exact installation instructions for the A1260.  Maybe you can find those instructions still on the Internet, as well as disk images (.adf or .dms) of any installer that might have been provided with the accelerator when it was new.

You will definitely need the correct libraries for the 060 installed to your hard drive before you install the A1260, but there might be a couple of other items you may need.

Did you get the SCSI add-on as well with it?  I think it is a great card and love having 256mb RAM inside my A1200.  It is maybe my favorite Classic Amiga now.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

No, it does not come with SCSI kit. I have the "original" Phase 5 installation disk for the card, but my concern is that I can't boot to WB if I dont have the extra ram provided by the card.
From 1260 users manual:

"The installation should either be carried out without the use of the BLIZZARD 1260 Turbo Board, or if this is
not possible, by selecting the option “Boot without start-up sequence” from the Boot menu. When using this
option enter the command “loadwb” in the CLI window after system start-up.
If you should need to use a 68020, 68030 or 68040 CPU, you need make no changes to the installed software.
The current version of the 68040.library supplied with the BLIZZARD 1260 automatically recognises the
processor being used and subsequently loads the required libraries.
The software installation is carried out by an installation routine. Insert the diskette supplied with the board, and
open the diskette by double-clicking it with the mouse. Before carrying out the installation you should open and
read the “Read Me” file by double-clicking it. This file contains the latest up-to-date information relating to the
software. The software is then installed by double-clicking on the INSTALL icon. The programmes in the
SOFT060 directory have their own documentation on the diskette, and the CPU060 command has the following
instructions in addition to those of the CPU command:
(NO)SUPERSCALAR  (de)activates the Superscalar mode of the processor
(NO)BRANCHCACHE  (de)activates the branch cache"

I would suggest that you go ahead and do the install from floppy disk before you remove your A1230.

With OS 3.9 it's very easy - you just need 060 library and Setpatch loads it; with lower versions you need the stub 040 library that recognizes the CPU/card and then loads the right library (040/060/040old).

Hi!

I also got my first Blizzard 1260 recently, I've attched the Libs that I installed before installing the Blizzard into my Tower. I got these from Zetr0 over at EAB :)

Everything is working fine for me.

I have the same .zip, the seller linked it to me at a finnish auction site called huuto.net. Did you just unzip the 4 files to LIBS: ?
And what OS do you have installed?

Sounds great, but does it matter if the LIBS: drawer has all 040/060/040old libaries?

The dummy (smallest) 68040.library will determine what system you have and load the correct library. This way you don't need to do any modifications to your system, regardless of if you have stock A1200, blizzard 1230, 1240 or 1260.

or some other 040 card - more probable with an A4000.

My system wont boot to WB without the extra ram brought by the 1230.

As long as you have a monitor that will cope with 15hkz then you will be able to do anything you need by using the early startup menu to boot straight to a CLI. Copying files from floppy is easy, from CD is harder as you'll need to mount it. But it's doable.
