New Future Amiga website - need your opinions and feedback
« on: August 22, 2010, 11:14:40 PM »
Hi all!

Spent most of today working further on my new website for the Amiga community.

Still a lot of visual graphic problems to fix, but its come along way over this weekend.

Really hard work though not having an Amiga myself (yet!), trawling the internet for images is time-consuming - it would be great to have an Amiga myself to speed up this  process.

In the future I want to have a complete section of video tutorials on how to use an Amiga - imitating http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/ to some degree.

Aminet aminet aminet - I haven't looked at it to be honest as there seems to be zero screenshots!  Is there are a comprehensive list somewhere of applications that work fully on OS 4.1u2?  I am guessing not, so feel free to name a few here *shouts* with links!

Look forward to your feedback ladies and gents.

Please check out my progress so far:

PS: Requires CSS Browser

Cool idea, shame it doesn't work in IBrowse though. Best of luck with the video tutorials, I plan on making some myself eventually. I think they're a great way of spreading awareness and letting everyone know that people still use Amigas!

Way too "modern" for me. It reminds me of the days when people discovered blink and center tags, it only lacks a dozen or two of "under construction" anim gifs :)

Sorry, but terrible hackjob of cutting out pics of the SAM from other places. Then increasing the size so they look even worse :(

The background image must be 2+ megs in size cause it loads slow.

The background image is 256.868 bytes. Still too much if you ask me.

Also grey and red on black is a bad idea if you want people to be able to read what is written. :).

He just needs people to supply him with decent base images of the hardware.

Most of the issues brought up so far have been resolved.

@CSixx, Refresh seems to be an issues atm, but this I think its more to do with the div containers rather than the image size - nonetheless i have reduced the image resolution and image quality anyway.

Yes temporary web address.

Edit: Oh yeah Kolla, i have no idea what blink is.. I can only guess at it being a flashing cursor. ^.^

I can't tell what the purpose of your site is.  What's your goal/target audience?  And what do you mean get involved in shaping the future of AmigaOS?  It's a closed source privately owned OS, how do you shape it's future?

What we\'re witnessing is the sad, lonely crowing of that last, doomed cock.

Alas, nothing written to the current web standards does.

Maybe think about compacting the first page down to a more simple format. The screen opens in a far wider window than shows on the browser and you have to scroll the image to get to another menu. Just overlay the image with you menu and then compact the window so the image is a Background Image. I see your using some piece of software to generate this. Maybe start with base HTML and work up from that. Good idea about the tutorials. Takes a lot of work to maintain a website. I get around 15000-20000 visitors a month but it took ages to get to that level of interest. You just have to create a simple format that people can readily access and that is interesting.

Good idea and well worth the effort. Don`t give up.

If you study the source of your page it refers to cssmenubuilder as auto generating online menus. I can`t actually go to the page as it only supports the new browsers. Not much help to me sadly. Saying that, given that you wrote the full scripts on your page using just a text editor I bow to your superior understanding of html and I'll shut up.
