Without a doubt the most advanced UAE port is the Windows one.

Yeah, UAE started out on linux, then dos, then windows. But the Windows port took off and advanced so fast and so far in its features that it has come the other way now. E-UAE is an attempt to take some of the features from WinUAE and bring them back to the other ports, mostly linux.

So can I get E-UAE emu with RTG PIV functionality akin to WinUAE on OS X?

I am ready to get serious and big into UAE in some form.  I own no PC right now, but an Intel Mac (and don't want to dual boot it).

I don't know what functionality the OS X port has. OS X is based on freeBSD and netbsd unix though isn't it? It probably has everything the linux version has.

I stand corrected. While it was developed ON a GNU/Linux system, it targeted (free) Unix systems, as one of the projects stated goals was portability.

In other words, it's not a GNU/Linux specific project. And it could never be a Linux specific project unless someone wanted to compile it into the kernel. After all, Linux isn't an operating system.

(free) Unix means Unix, generally (irrespective of trademark), and free Unix such as GNU/Linux and the BSDs.

While there are GNU/Linux (the OS) and Linux (the kernel) specific APIs, many open source projects are incorrectly associated with GNU/Linux. For example, KDE is not GNU/Linux nor Linux specific, yet people, especially so-called tech journalists, can't seem to get that it's just an open source project which happens to run on GNU/Linux as well as other (free)Unix systems.

UAE runs very well on linux though the windows port is a bit more supported.

You can set up RTG stuff in it as well. I used to have a set up like that before I got a real amiga again

UAE for OS X (I'm sorry Richard Bannister you are still awesome) sucks compared to WinUAE.   Hands down WinUAE just rocks.

What I do is run WinUAE under WINE for OS X via MacPorts.   Its runs great and allows you to do everything in WinUAE that you would do on a real Windows PC.

Not sure if OS X wine is significantly different but for linux anyways, it runs with whatever the default options are in wine.
