A1200 Keyboard Issues
« on: August 17, 2010, 04:55:52 PM »
Just got my new A1200 keyboard, plugged it in, but some of the keys don't work. Namely the W, 2, Caps Lock and I can't Reboot the Amiga with CTRL+A+A. Do you think it's the keyboard or the machine? All the other keys work fine.
A4K: \\\'060, Cyberstorm MKIII Cybervision 64/3D w/ Scandoubler, Buddha Flash XSurf, MP3@64, A4K: \\\'040, Toaster, Y/C, A1200: Apollo \\\'040, A1200 GVP \'030, A1200: Stock, A2000: 68K, Trump SCSI, Supra 8Mb, and Toaster 4K, A2500: \\\'030, GVP SCSI, Supra 8MB x2, Video Toaster, CD32, Minimig, Efika and Hopefully an A4000T soon!

Hi! Maybe its too obvious but..have you adjusted the green keyboard ribbon to the white clip properly?
Have you tried using compressed air inside?
Is it new or second hand?Any chances of getting a replacement or, maybe talk to previous owner to ask if he was having similar issues?

Is your mobo ok also?

Sorry if its not too much help, but...you never know...

It's a new keyboard. Tried it with and without my turbo card. Most of the keys work, just not a few on the left hand side of the keyboard.

I did make sure the ribbon is properly seated, and I also used compressed air!

I've seen and had the same problem on a number of A1200s and no matter how much I was convinced that the connection was ok, it always turned out it wasn't.

Simplest way to check is, take the top of the A1200 and while typing in a shell squeeze the white plastic connector gently, or gently move the ribbon cable and 9 times out of 10 your keyboard will work. It sometimes takes a small piece of thin card jammed into the connector slot to force a good connection even with a new keyboard.

Hope this helps... :)
