Well, do you have an audio cable with 4 pin plug connected to the dvd writer, and is the other end connected to something (like a sound card or audio mixer)?

this is what i regard a last resort sorta solution. although im going to get hold of such a cable if anything else breaks, but my question is how to get the music via data lead, meeans via atapi/usb connection.

There are a few players on Aminet that should be able to playback CDDA audio through Paula or a sound card through the IDE bus, they work fine with SCSI at least. The CDDA filesystem will only let you copy whole CDDA tracks back unless you find a CDDA datatype for multiview, or associate the DefIcon with one of these CDDA players.

This is a command-line one that should work, doesn't have a GUI but it's simple enough to use - http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/PlayTrack

If it doesn't work with this, we'll just have to keep trying them until we find one that works.

YACDP will do it.  It was on one of the old Aminet CDs

Use the "Play via SCSI" option.

Don`t have a link for it though.

good luck.

AsimTunes (part of AsimCDFS) can play audio via the data stream. SongPlayer supposedly can, too, but I haven't tried.

Ah... Yes good old YACDP, I remember using it many years ago. But I'm not sure if it will be of any use here since it requires a SCSI CD-Rom. But anyway, here is a link to it: http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/YACDP1.2

Another program that can be used for listening to audio tracks streamed through the data cable is MakeCD, but the sound quality is poor (afair), and I think the whole point with this feature in MakeCD was to let the user quickly hear the tracks, and not that he/she really should --+ LIsten +-- to the music.
