Indivision AGA for the A1200?
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:33:10 AM »
Hello all.

Does anyone know about the status of Indivision AGA production for the A1200? I am in need of one, and I'm just wondering if they will ever be produced again. If not, are there any sources for new old stock/used devices, or anyone who might be willing to sell theirs?

Also, do these devices change the main video output, or do they add another connector for VGA?

Thanks,
Tom

They add a VGA connector, which is usually routed out of the spare expansion slot underneath the floppy drive.

Rumours are there should be a new batch produced later this year. Used ones pop up for sale every so often too.

Sounds good.

On a related note, I read that some of the A1200 revisions have a Lisa chip that is too thin for the board to properly seat over it. Is this true, and which revisions does it apply to? I have a revision 2B board.

The best Lisa chip to have for use with the Indivision is the Commodore Lisa. The HP Lisa is the one that's incompatible, and I think there's a third one which isn't too good either. There are hacks to get it to work though, and I think later revisions of the Indivision are compatible or will be compatible with all the Lisa chips.

I have a Escom A1200, and a HP Lisa chip.
Indivision used to "pop out" every once in a while but fixin it was very simple, I just bended the pin's a little from the Indivision. Never had even a one problem after that (fixed it about 1 year ago).
A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.
And a couple of A600\'s :).

The first batch of the Indivision AGA 1200 could slip of certain types of Lisa, mainly the HP ones. Slightly sanding down the connector of the Indivision would solve this. About 0.5 mm should be enough.

Later revisions were, if I am not mistaken, either sanded down already or used as slightly lower connector.

My Indivision (early revision) also would not stay on, which was easily solved with the sanding down procedure. It is now firmly attached to the Lisa chip in my A1200.

There is also the resistor hack for improved picture quality.

As I suspected these will be worth 500 euros in 10 years :)

Better get a second one during fall this year ;)

Anyway, what is the resistor hack?

will it be the same revision as last time, or is there anything to the rumours that it´s a new revision with new features, not only mechanically but also feature wise?

Is this the hack that prevents the "flicker" at the top of the screen in hi-res modes that occurs for 5 - 10 minutes after booting (or until the machine is warm?)

Link?

Hi,

Anybody tried that 15khz rgb to VGA converter that they have listed on ebay for $92, would really like to know how it works before I spend cash on one.

Thanks
