The swedish company GGS-Data are selling Grex PCI 1200 cards for 495 swedish crowns which equals to around 54 EUR.

@Rob:

I dont know the performance for that exact configuration, but as zipper tipped me there are quite some benchmarks on the AmigaSpeed website. You can compare how different graphic cards and busboards perform in Payback, Heretic, Quake 2 and Quake.

90 euro at Veaslia. But if OS4 comes out, can use use the Grex with it or only the Mediator ?? I do have got a PPC233/50 with Bvision and Zorro4. Should I kick the Z4 ?? Can I use a pci gfx card next to the 8 Mb Bvision ??   :-?   I´ve got a Voodoo4 32 Mb ready for Amiga use and a Voodoo5 64 Mb that is supposed to be on its way (if I´m not screwed on Ebay) 8-)
Not an insult to the makers of Bvision, but would a Voodoo card be better than a Bvision ?? Kick the Bvision too ??  :-?

AFAIK the is no OS4 support planned for the G-REX, that`s one reason why they are sold so cheap, on the other hand OS4 for BlizardPPC is miles away anayway.

No, with an G-Rex 1200 you could not use the BVisionPPC anymore, as the G-Rex connects to the BlizzardPPC the same way the BVisonPPC does.
Although the Voodoo 4 and 5 are found to be compatibel to the Voodoo3 driver by accident I would still advise to use a VooDoo3.
The perfomance gain of useing a Voodoo insted of the BVisionPPC with it`s dated Permedia2 is overwhelming (mainly the games aren`t going that much faster but they aren`t going any slower when you increase the resolution. Have you tried Payback in 800x600 on your BVisionPPC ? Then try ist again with a Voodoo3)
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

Also because the G-Rex is a POS and by installing one you risk killing your BPPC and/or your motherboard.

@Lemmink:

The Grex has drivers for Voodoo3, Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 alas there should be no problem for Effy to use his Voodoo4, see: Supported Grex PCI cards

@Lando:

The burning-up-stuff-factor isnt possibly some power issue? Like if you connect the Grex without connecting power directly to it - it will draw too much current from the BlizzardPPC and thus also the motherboard - this resulting in frying the power supplying leads of the circuit-boards?

Yea 2D wise you are right. I was thinking straight away to Warp3D, `cos what is the point of a Voodoo if you don`t use it for 3D.
Yes I know the VooDoo3 Warp3D driver works with 4 and 5 as well, but is is not officially supported, so there "could" be some compatibility issues.

As for the burning up problem: whenever this occoured I am pretty sure the user was running it without connecting the Powersupply directly to the G-Rex as is is clearly stated in the manual.
Even old PC-motherboards burned up since some wires weren`t up to the job of delivering the currency powerfull garphikchips demanded, that`s why the VooDoo5 even has its own 3.5" powerconnector
Not really interesting, but it`s there.
